My Mum says if you park on Violet Road again she'll slash your tires

  • 17 Sep 2026, 2:56 p.m.

I'm sure it would, but, again a fiver-a-pop for, say, 10,000 fans across 19 games of the season is getting on for £1m annually for the club to subsidise - because no way (rightly so) should the tram or bus companies stand that cost.

Also, a sudden influx of cars to the park-and-ride sites is potentially going to require more land for additional spaces. Who's paying for that and the ongoing cost of maintaining it?

Almost as though it's not quite as easy as back-of-a-fag-packet, this transport-planning lark.

For context that was almost 17 years ago.. the new Bills stadium which opens tonight costs 2.2 Billion $

Here the club are ultimately rebuilding 3 stands, and other work around the stadium. So while I agree I thought it was high and don't necessarily disagree with your cynical thinking the cost of building anything is increasing astronomically.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 3:19 p.m.

    Is that a euphemism?

  • 17 Sep 2026, 3:52 p.m.

Fair, but the math still ain't mathing to me. Obviously I'm massively oversimplifying the equation but I really don't think that improved corporate revenue and the odd concert is making that much of a difference, especially when we factor in the higher match day costs and the huge cost of the money.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 3:54 p.m.

I think your figures are a bit high on both numbers and cost. If I was in the boardroom with a pin stripe suit on, I'm pretty sure I could get them to shake hands on £600,000 per season

  • 17 Sep 2026, 3:56 p.m.

Nah. That ship has, thankfully, sailed. I'm totally convinced we're staying put.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 3:58 p.m.

Good stuff. And the cost of the additional parking spaces and extra trams/buses that would need to be put on each match day?

  • 17 Sep 2026, 4:01 p.m.

Could you? What's your leverage in this scenario?

  • 17 Sep 2026, 4:02 p.m.

Have you been to Brighton? They don't put on extra trains, you just queue and queue.

And it's in the arse end of nowhere.

    FTFY

  • 17 Sep 2026, 4:45 p.m.

    £600,000. Next question.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 4:49 p.m.

Abbey Road or Abbey Circus are my current roads of choice. M and S car park for an evening game. Can’t use this for Saturday games as the 3 hr limit doesn’t suit.

Marinakis isn’t here to make money. He’s already lost tens of millions. The ground expansion just allows higher revenues so more can be spent.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 5:55 p.m.

    The section 106 conditions:

    The club must contribute:

£1.75million ($2.4m) to improve bus services on matchdays

£990,000 to help implement parking restrictions in the surrounding area

Close to £400,000 to improve park-and-ride facilities

£170,000 for canal-side development, electronic transport information displays and e-bike docking stations

£100,000 in new signs surrounding the stadium

More than £400,000 for walking and cycle path improvements.

So Jim can drive to the outskirts, get on his bike and dock it at the ground.

I honestly do normally cycle there. Kinda. I get the train to the station, then a Lime Bike to the North side of Trent Bridge. It's not far, I occasionally walk it, but I enjoy the cycle and it gives me time for another pint. Would be nice if there were docking/ e-bikes in WB so that I could get it to Central Avenue occasionally.
