I honestly do normally cycle there. Kinda. I get the train to the station, then a Lime Bike to the North side of Trent Bridge. It's not far, I occasionally walk it, but I enjoy the cycle and it gives me time for another pint. Would be nice if there were docking/ e-bikes in WB so that I could get it to Central Avenue occasionally.

It's honestly hard to understand why you aren't in a boardroom in pinstripes with skills like that.

With respect, I think that's a slightly naive position. While there's no doubt that he invests in football clubs because he loves football, we shouldn't pretend he doesn't do it as a business. Yes, he's buying profile and credibility (although it's arguable how successful either of those is if he's trying to appear clean), but he's investing in assets and some day he's going to sell Forest. When he does he's going to want his money back plus some.

I'm ready to be proven wrong, but I don't think we or he are spending £790M to do this.

    FTFY

Or a half term week at Center Parcs for a family of 4 with 2 kids who go on everything.

3 kids is the full billion.

But the stadium makes the asset more valuable if you want to sell it on. The payback doesn't only have to be in terms of cash earned.

Agreed, but if I'm taking on the liability as well as the asset I also want to see a timeline for a return. See: Seagrave

Saw this earlier and ignored it even though it irritated me.

Now I have had a couple of drinks, I can call it out for cuntitude. Plenty of us supporting Forest for 50+year who travel from a long way off to watch games. Maybe we don’t have season tickets but we are supporters nonetheless. We are not plastics.

    So. With respect. Fuck off.

Well said guru. I live in walking distance of the corrupt shitshow, and I cant be arsed to go. You are definitely a better fan than me. If a bit dimmer.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 10:53 p.m.

Everyone is dimmer than you. You’re like the Jackson Lamb of talkback

  • 17 Sep 2026, 11:04 p.m.

You jack on lamb all you want. I'll just stick to being right.

  • 17 Sep 2026, 11:37 p.m.

Does that make Ingo River Cartwright?

A big part of the return is maintenance of PL status, which increases the capital value of the club. Better facilities means more income available to spend to improve the team, better ability to attract and retain players etc. That’s the only way he gets his £800m back*.

Obviously it might not work out that way. See: Seagrave.

    * I don’t believe we have any idea how this will be financed. Maybe EM will be writing a cheque… but usually these things involve financial engineering that ties huge rocks around the necks of clubs which ramp up the existential risks they face by orders of magnitude.

Briefly on the bridge thing… I will rave endlessly, whether people care or not, about how well this sort of thing has been handled down here around the MCG/Tennis centre. That includes a whole network of paths, bridges and linear-parks that mean you can get to the city centre, railway stations, and various other points well away from the stadium, without ever having to cross a road. It’s outstanding human-centric infrastructure which, here, serves the public every day and not just on match days.

You can’t replicate the utility of that sort of thing in Nottingham for a number of reasons… but you can learn from it, and one easy learning is that a dedicated bridge and walking route is immeasurably better than closing traffic lanes etc. Alas, I expect that the public authorities have long missed the opportunity to do something sensible like reserve space for a pathway/linear park between Trentside and the city/station… something that would line up very nicely with a shiny new bridge.

There is a very viable route, with a bit of compulsory purchase (we once looked at buying the warehouse right next to shades proposed location). The reality is that it has next to no utility, except for on match days.
