That Guardian bio is shit, it blathers on for paragraphs about his work with Madonna and then barely even mentions by far his most important work, his rework of Barber's Adagio For Strings with Ferry Corsten - that piece transformed an entire genre and played a huge part in taking trance from hippie festivals to sold out arenas.

I was waiting for mention of that all article. An absolute classic from my mid to late teens and the only reason I knew who he was.

    What Russ said.

    And Blur's 13 wasn't all that, either.

I don’t disagree and the Guardian should have done better than make most of the article about Madonna. However, unlike Russ, the vast majority of the population were not dropping tabs and clubbing in the 1990’s, even if said arenas were sold out. Whereas most people have heard of Madonna, whose career he helped relaunch and for which he won Grammies. So it’s arguably his most widely known contribution even if it’s not necessary his most important.

    OK Boomer.

He’s not the person complaining about the content of newspaper obituaries.

A newspaper obit is supposed to tell you about a notable person's achievements in their life. A correctly written obit would say something like "while perhaps more widely known by the general public for his production work on Madonna's second phase of her career, his greatest influence was in creating a seminal work that played a huge part in taking an underground electronic genre from small festivals to arenas and superclubs, and providing a foundation for DJs like Tiesto and Armand van Helden to become global superstars commanding hundreds of thousands of pounds for a single appearance", rather than just gushing for paragraphs about Madonna.

I think it's reasonable to talk about what is most known, by most people.

Did any of these other people wear conical party hats on their tits? No? There's a lesson there to learn.

I am not familiar with his other work, being more your two and a half minute pop song kind of guy, but I had heard of his work on ray of light.

Edit: Sorry, no, she's not dead. I was just singing along to Ray of Light. Carry on.

The commonly heard version isn't even 4 minutes long and I'm willing to bet you've heard it many times before; it has been extensively used as a TV montage score and has been played everywhere from underground raves to the Royal Albert Hall.

And Notts more recently, introducing a nice splash of red to their kit as I recall. Ho ho.
