United have made overtures, if you believe the press, that they're unwilling to pay the fee - hence have left City to it.

we'll sell Anderson to one of your main rivals

Who else is going to give us over £100m for him? I can't see anyone doing that except maybe Liverpool and even that's unlikely IMO.

    £85m + some add-ons and let's move on.

Or we keep him, try to improve the team and avoid fighting relegation again. It does get a bit boring after a while and judging by last summer we would end up pissing the money away anyway.

If that's a viable option then great I'm in. I just don't think it is unfortunately.

The versions I’ve read have said that he prefers City, so they are the only ones he’s spoken to.

Just seen that West Ham want £80m for Fernandes, if you want some calibration of the value of a decent premier league midfielder.

    A quick Google ...

"United are known admirers of Anderson and are ready to spend big this summer in pursuit of midfield reinforcements, but there is a belief inside Old Trafford that meeting Forest’s demands over the 23-year-old will ultimately prove poor value for money."

Can't be arsed finding lots of sources given we've no idea if any are even factual.

    They'll get £50m.

They paid almost that much for him, he's 21, and just had another outstanding top flight season. If they only get £50M for him they've been fleeced.

Harsh financial reality of being relegated I'm afraid.

So Southampton got over £40M for him when they were relegated, but with an extra year of Premier League football under his belt and having played extremely well in a poor team West Ham will be forced to sell him for not much more than they paid? Help that make sense for me please.

At £50M I would have their hands off for him as a replacement for Anderson, but I suspect his next move is United or Chelsea and for a lot more money than that.

That was my initial reaction too - but he's actually younger than Matz Sels (Butland DoB 10/03/1993; Sels 26/02/1992)

It's a shame if Ortega is not staying but it's probably a luxury as we're no longer in Europe. Butland would probably be cheaper and not a bad no. 2

MGW linked with both Arsenal and PSG, each of which sounds bonkers, but makes the money hairs on the back of my next go "woo woo woo".

But Tuchel thinks Eze is better and he only plays half the games.
