Well the deflection wasn't a "mistake" it was just pure bad luck, and he passes a ball back to the keeper maybe 20 times a game in pretty much every formation he's ever played his entire career, so that doesn't make sense to me either. I think you're trying to look for rational explanations for irrational things. Hey ho.
