This is true and some of the defending was terrible. That said, the games most people remember (as neutrals*) tend to be the high scoring ones.

*obviously, as a non-neutral, I don’t give a shit that we “only” beat Malmo and Hamburg 1-0, or indeed Huddersfield for that matter.

Some of the goals were superb though, proper elite level stuff. It was superb to watch.

Best game ever? That’s just the reactionary society we now live in. But it was bloody good.

The best game I ever saw was probably THAT game at Brammall Lane. We lost. And I don’t think there was a great deal of elite quality on show… but the stakes were high, the emotion was intense, and it was proper ding-dong shit with momentum shifting throughout. Brutal and compelling… tension and release.. exactly what I want out of sport.

Great technique and tactical masterclasses are all very nice… but without some of that ^ they’re a bit boring to me. Nuno’s masterminded win at Anfield was joyous.. a bit because it was so well executed, and a lot because it was close, tense, and we all fucking hate scousers. High scoring games tend to have more of the drama so people enjoy them more even if the defensive quality is ropey. So is the best game the one where everyone was on top form and executed their roles and plans to perfection (nil-nil) or is it the one that more people really enjoy watching.

I want my team to defend well and stop goals but every other game can finish 5-4 as far as I’m concerned.
It was great last night but I’m not expecting a similar level of quality tonight.

The one thing i'd say with that game is even at 2 up it felt like the writing was on the wall and once they started scoring it was only going one way.

From a similar era I'd offer Johnson sticking it to Ipswich and the battle of Highfield Road. Arsenal at home to stay up is probably the modern classic.

    What's happening tonight?

    Boring boring Arsenal.

Some sort of organised set piece cuddling competition.

Agreed. I know we were on the wrong end of the result (complete with epic levels of Warnock smugness), but I'm not sure I've seen a better game in terms of total engagement and emotion. It was incredible.

Being reported that Solanke has a grade-two hamstring injury (what ever that means - Chicago?). Looks like his season is likely over.
