I’ve never had an alcoholic drink in an airport or on a plane…..

Same. Though I think I've only ever taken 19 flights. And bar the very odd exception drinking is an evening thing for me and I've never taken an evening flight.

About 40 minutes passport queue at Porto this morning. Imagine it's only gotten worse.

European holidays this summer are going to be a right shit show at peak resorts.

    Really?

I've done 12 this year so far.

Edit; strictly speaking at time of posting 11 as the 12th takes off in an hour or so back to LGW)

Especially at a table, then a very polite family decides to ignore the warning signs of empty tins cluttering the table and sit down opposite, and you just don't give a fuck because you're half cut.

Drinking on planes is the only way to kill the boredom. I've lost track of the number of 7+hr flights I've taken, a few sober, and I've never understood how people watch a film. Board plane, beers until food arrives, wine with food, another wine, sleep. Wake up sober enough to navigate your connection, board next plane, repeat.

I'm with JR on airport drinking though, can't justify the prices. Airports are for getting your steps in. Because once you're on that plane, at least you'll then be ready for a sit down.

We had no issues at lunchtime to be fair (flight to Amsterdam and then on to Manc). Both trips surprisingly smooth.

The year we went to Santorini it was one flight out but 2 back (change in Athens).
And yes, only 19. Munich twice. Portugal twice. France twice. Spain. Santorini. Malta. Family holidays as a kid were pack the whole house into the car for 2 weeks somewhere (France, usually). Trips to Belgium with the Flemish ex were on Eurostar. Apart from that I was either working (never had to fly for work unsurprisingly), poor / saving or just not that fussed about going away. I think my 1st ever flight was the weekend of my 40th birthday.

Stopping drinking helped immensely. In those days my MO was to dump the rental car and hit the bar as quickly and for as long as possible, all on expenses. It's not easy to race across Houston airport to catch a flight a mile away when you're off your face.

    Amatuer.

Airports and travel in general are much more fun when you're half cut though.

Old git alert…I still do loads of travelling and now hate being vaguely drunk. The before/during and after is much easier when you’re sober

I think I'd concur even if a choice, personally. Although if I'm honest I can't even be arsed with the travelling bit if I can possibly avoid it these days.

The only time I ever drink on planes is if I'm fortunate enough to be seated next to some top totty and she accepts my offer to buy her one.

Just to reassure / terrify everyone - I'm prepared to start the return match thread tomorrow unless I get up and find someone else has volunteered.
