Had the pleasure of Heathrow today, after a 9 hour flight back from Canada really didn’t need the hour wait for baggage. Half was done fairly quick and the hundred or so people left were told it was all off. Well clearly it wasn’t and after checks they discovered they had left half of it airside. Everything was so much smoother the Canadian side as they actually employ staff to do things.

But we did have some pissed up twat from another flight to help pass the time as he was shouting his head off in the terminal first at his poor wife and then at the security. He was shouting about the boats and that he was English. And then telling the security to ‘go home’. He was a great advert for Brexit Britain for the arriving tourists. The police arrived as we were leaving, hopefully they locked the cunt up.

If we're playing shitty journeys, I got back to LGW late last night (missed the game) 48hrs+ after I was supposed to thanks to BA fuckwittery, not only extra car park fees to pay but my battery had died during the extended stay and had to call out emergency dude to get a jump start.

Made the funeral with ten minutes to spare. Great to see @Dave_Rave, @rich and @steve, sorry I didn't get much time to have a good chat. A very good turn out and I was surprised at how many people I knew. You see people out and about at matches etc, but never in one place, and aside from the Talkbackers, I know them all through Jules. Anyway, made some good contacts with fans of other clubs so hoping to committee Jules tradition of meeting up with opposition fans before matches.

I hope your travels back from Villa Park are going to be this entertaining, although ideally not full stopped by a funeral.

Birmingham to Reading is far less glam that Porto to Stragglethorpe via Lisbon and London with a drive through the night and some laptop jeopardy

I was only in it for laptop the jeopardy. Bit of let down in the end if I'm honest, but it was a great sub-plot hook to an already gripping read.

And KarlMark's football journey adventures are loads more interesting than Shady's fare dodging turnstile leaping expliots.

It only seems like yesterday that KM was leaving earbuds and ipods on various planes around the globe, and now he’s remembering his laptop even when he’s had a busy day.

They grow up so quickly. sniffs

Stopping drinking helped immensely. In those days my MO was to dump the rental car and hit the bar as quickly and for as long as possible, all on expenses. It's not easy to race across Houston airport to catch a flight a mile away when you're off your face.

Airports and travel in general are much more fun when you're half cut though.

Old git alert…I still do loads of travelling and now hate being vaguely drunk. The before/during and after is much easier when you’re sober

On the odd occasion I do travel without drinking, usually because I'm doing it for work, I find myself torn between a feeling of pride in my adultness and annoyance that I missed a good drinking opportunity. Drunk at an airport bar is one of my absolute favourite types of drunk.

I’ve never had an alcoholic drink in an airport or on a plane…..

  • 11 Apr 2026, 8:03 a.m.

I don't like being drunk on planes. I start to feel claustrophobic and icky.

  • 11 Apr 2026, 8:19 a.m.

I’m just that bit too financially conservative to swallow airport bar scotch prices.

  • 11 Apr 2026, 8:33 a.m.

Same. Though I think I've only ever taken 19 flights. And bar the very odd exception drinking is an evening thing for me and I've never taken an evening flight.
