Kushner has to be the top target. Hegseth Will be ripped apart by the Republican wolves because they can already blame him for their failures.
Sacks would be delicious for the Russian asset/South African white supremacy/crypto Czar/techbro combo.
But Kushner is family, blatantly corrupt, and enormously wealthy. And everyone hates him.

I'm hopeful they won't be stupid enough to try impeachment again. Impeachment is like a referendum: you should only go for it if you know you're going to win. Wilson knew he'd win the referendum in the seventies before he called it; Cameron assumed he'd win and we live with the consequences.

There is zero prospect of successfully impeaching Trump, so go for the acolytes as others have said. I don't think Americans voted for two years of navel-gazing from the Democrats. It seems that corruption was a big issue in the elections, so spend the two years exposing as much as possible and tarnishing the Republicans. I don't think Vance is a realistic Presidential candidate; he's too tainted. Rubio or Cruz will have a punt, along with some other soulless religious freaks. I'm sure Vance will give it a go, but Trump succeeded purely on strength of personality and his ability to lie and bullshit with zero consequences. Hopefully he's irreplaceable and the Republicans will spend some time in the wilderness.

Never underestimate the ability of the Democrats to self destruct though. Who are their possible candidates? Newsome will give it a go, and I'm sure the "progressive" wing of the party will have their favoured candidates.

Current favourites for the respective nominations are R - Vance, Rubio, DeSantis (latter seems most likely to me); D - Ossoff, Ocasio-Cortez, Newsom. Dem leadership have historically been better at putting their thumb on the scale and AOC still seems very young and inexperienced (not sure they'd nominate someone who'd never been a senator or governer), so Ossoff seems the likeliest compromise.

AOC has a cracking arse on her though.

Ossoff (who seems like a relatively good sort) ruled himself out during his senate reelection campaign. He can change his mind, obviously, but I wouldn’t expect him to run unless he thinks he’s favourite for the nomination.. he’s young enough to be in no hurry. Dem leadership, if it stays as it is, will surely get behind Newsom, as he’s the safe bet. The leftish wing of the party will hate him, because he sucks, but they won’t beat him. AOC should primary Chuck Schumer and get in the senate.

    BBC News breaking...

Russell Brand found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault

  • 5 Nov 2026, 2:45 p.m.

I see also that the creepy "Married at first sight" programme has cancelled because some of the participants have been a bit rapey. Who could possibly have predicted that for the format?

Maybe dialing back a bit on the fascist enablement will make for a less overtly abusive society? Whats happening with Andrew Mountbatten Windsor these days?

    One of the great understatements.
Ossoff does seem the pragmatic choice, not least because he actually seems to want to fight for good things. AOC is for the future, and is in a great position to replace Schumer.

  • 5 Nov 2026, 5 p.m.

Ossoff is my choice. Andy Bashear is a popular Dem in a deep red State . I find him rehearsed and folksy and phony though. Newsome desperately wants to be president which may very well work against him. Also I hate his super white teeth. AOC I like. She is young though and a female (America regardless of what you have heard is still deeply misogynistic) so probably too soon. Don't rule out Rahm emanuel as he talks a lot of sense and still has ties to the Obama presidency. Harris will give it a go too but it didn't work the first time so I think she won't get the traction.

The hardest part for the Dems is not fighting with each other. They are probably going to clash over Isreal and other things but hopefully they keep it on the down low and appear together and vote together otherwise the Republicans will find a way to weasle in again.

It would be nice if smart people didn't do dumb things. I suspect it might be too much to ask for but let's hope...

    Chicago: Quietly optimistic.

Surprisingly Ossoff is only two years older than AOC... But he's been a senator for 5 years, as opposed to a member of congress for 7.

The really depressing thing is that this will have been known about in the industry, including at the time.

Nobody did or said anything because Brand made lots of money for other folk as well as himself.

  • 5 Nov 2026, 5:21 p.m.

Unlikely that someone who's ambivalent or mildly interested will get elected. Anyone who runs seriously (i.e. not just to increase their media profile) desperately wants it.

  • 5 Nov 2026, 6:11 p.m.

Totally, but girl. And she's in a safe Blue area for the long term. After the Harris and Clinton misogyny (and I am perfectly well aware it wasn't exclusively bigotry that cost them), I don't want to see her getting the Ardern treatment. The world will eventually grow up. Hopefully.

  • 5 Nov 2026, 6:22 p.m.

Ewwwww. Rahm Emanuel is the embodiment of everything that's wrong with the establishment Democrats.

  • 5 Nov 2026, 6:44 p.m.

This is the worst take yet.
