Djed Spence was great first half and that tackle, but he was really poor for the second goal.

He wasn't alone in being poorer as the game went on, but if he'd followed Messi out to the ball it can't have hurt.

Should have hired Nuno. The tactics and result would have been the same, but he'd have been a lot cheaper.

Pep for next manager, just for the Tricky/Spanish Dancing.

That was a disaster class in Management tactics. When you take off all your attacking players and flood them with defenders who have no intention of getting out of your own half with over 30 minutes left then you are asking to be beaten. We looked hopeless after that. As soon as the last two defenders were announced (and we were winning at the time), I turned to my wifey and said, "We are 1000% going to lose this", and lo and behold it wasn't even close. They took all their defenders off and went for it. We had nothing to attack that back line which almost didn't exist anymore. Absolute dogshit. Everyone. EVERYONE! said this was stupid. Tuchel is living in an Adderal dreamscape. This was in Nuno's playbook but worse....

We had nothing to keep them back. Where was Saka? Where was anyone who would attack. Did Ollie Watkins call him a cunt? I would of. Tuchel lost this game, not this team. I almost spunked 8K on getting to Atlanta, paying for the game and getting back in one go. Only flight availability got in the way. What a lucky break. I doubt Southgate would have been this defensive. He also would have taken some grafters too, (MGW, Palmer...Luke Shaw).

Pah. I had no problem going and losing in a toe to toe game. This was a management capitulation of massive order. Fucking coward... The Argies kept at it. We made it easy for them.

The only consolation I have is that we were never going to win the final anyway, and that the Spain will probably chicken fuck the Argies up the bum.

In other news; This was Anderson's best game of the tournament but the poor bugger cannot do it by himself. I wish him well even if he is getting relegated with -50 point Petro State Citeh.

Chicago: Applying for the England Job.

I am already bored of reading that Tuchel should never had tried to defend the lead against a team with Argentina’s quality.

He had reason to do it against Mexico… ten men… but he did it against Norway who, last I heard, had attacking players well accustomed to scoring against English defenders. It didn’t work out differently in the last game because Argentina are better than Norway.. it worked out differently because sometimes things go one way and sometimes they go another.

Nothing is learned because questions only get asked once every two years.. and only upon exiting the tournament… where much is excused because of the quality of the opposition. England were deeply unconvincing for most of the tournament. They soundly beat a declining Croatia, and genuinely stepped up and got an impressive result against Mexico… but bungled through the rest of it thanks to luck and Jude Bellingham.

The first half against the Argies was effective, if unambitious. We got the break we needed… but had no idea what to do with it so just went Megson. Pathetic.

Tuchel says he doesn't know what he could have done differently to win the game.

And the FA say he has their full support to take us to the Euros.

    Can't really reconcile those two.

Except I guess the FA can't afford to sack him having given him the extended contract pre tournament.

I know we are biased, but Gibbs-White as a late sub would have helped relieve the pressure. All the players Tuchel took were the same profile: get the ball and run with it. MGW is great at receiving it under pressure, spinning away and moving it on.

Having slept on it, still really angry about that. What a pathetic waste. Defending a lead I can understand. But not almost entirely in your 6 yard box and without an out ball. Nuno would have been appalled at the naivety of that execution.
If you are going to play like that, you absolutely need a Gibbs White.

This is the major frustration for me.

The German had an idea. Let's not take our best players, let's take jolly boys. Let's set up to only play one way and make sure that we can't be criticised because there are no credible options. Let's rely on players I know, even if they are crocked and out of form.

Didn't work. Some good players sat at home missing their prime while Chalobah gets the future media career because he went to a world cup.

What an utter fucking waste for something that was never going to work. Don't get me wrong, other things might also not have worked. But for me you are not even giving it a shot if you don't at least give it a go with your best players. Preferably ones with an attitude beyond being grateful to be there. That's why you have a manager. Manage them.

Don't know if this is true or not, but someone posted it on the BBC (I mean, he must have had a penalty somewhere)...

Kane has played over 700 mins at major semi finals and finals
    0 shots at goal
    0 goals
    0 assists
    That is very telling

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:25 a.m.

Surely that's because he's world class player who is clever and drops into midfield to show his range of passing?

I'm not sure I believe the made up stat. But still [itch].

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:34 a.m.

I hope Kane retires from International football soon just to shut Tricky up.

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:48 a.m.

It seems about right based on the eye test, assuming you mean for England. The dropping deep when we are defending automatically makes us even deeper and we have no outlet.

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:52 a.m.

The narrative is we've got noone to replace him and we need to hope he carries on to the next World Cup.

Gemini AI tells me the stat is false but in 5 finals for Spurs and England and countries he has 0 goals and 0 assists.

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:54 a.m.

Has to be internationals only - he appears to have scored a hat-trick in the last German cup final.

  • 16 Jul 2026, 9:54 a.m.

I think he'd taken a knock just before - seemed to be hobbling slightly and couldn't get out to the ball.

I'd echo what others have said. Being wedded to Kane is the problem. It didn't work for him last night so with 20 minutes to go we should have hooked him for Watkins. His pace and movement through the channels was precisely what Argentina wouldn't have wanted with two centre backs on yellow cards. Needed to get higher up the pitch and push them back.

That said, the better team demonstrably won. The quality of their final ball V ours in the last half-hour was embarrassing. Our crosses failed to clear the first man, while theirs were virtually undefendable.
