The problem wasn't selecting 41 year old Ronaldo, it was selecting him and asking him to play like 31 year old Ronaldo. If they did what Argentina have done with Messi and just let him roam around the opposing box waiting for an opportunity while the rest of the team did all the running for him, they'd probably have been much better off.
