Back in this morning after a week's leave to this line in an email from my boss:

"Let's swirl the strategies on approach to achieve the outcome needed and go from there..."

Could easily have gone in a 'Little pieces of my soul recently deceased' thread, I guess.

"Dear Mr. Boss, What the merry fuck are you on about?"

    Mrs Boss.

Is your boss as much of a pillock as he/she/it sounds?

She's lovely as a person but can be infuriating as a boss, which is probably quite normal. My direct line manager is a bloke who's a good guy, but I have far more to do with Mrs Boss now than I used to (in a slightly more senior role).

I don't think I have a man above me anymore. Just nasty women who tell me in an ever so patronising manner how much they care about my well being, whilst also emailing me pages and pages of reading material during the holiday to read before the first day back. Which was INSET. On a non-working day for this part time layabout. So I'm back in tomorrow to finally open the email they sent me on Boxing Day. 6 months and 11 days until I bid this career a glorious farewell.

Local Asda Express is advertising for management. Working hours are 37hrs/week on a rota between 05:00 and midnight, which is better than 60hrs/week on a rota between 05:00 and midnight. I can make up the difference in take-home pay by tutoring 2hrs a week.

I set my satnav to a womans voice, because I don't mind being told what to do by women. They can't help themselves. I've just reached a point where find it easier to ignore. I tend to argue with men.

My new boss is a bloke. He looks like Berry7.

    Have you punched him yet?

Also shares his small stature. I’d have to sit down to swing a punch.

Glad to see the preparation and planning is on track.

Doesn’t every management role at a supermarket require treating junior staff like absolute scum? Or is that just a popular optional extra?

My current boss is awesome. It turns out that when you move out of sales it's possible to find management who aren't raging psychopaths driven by a blend of coffee, greed and unresolved childhood trauma. Who knew?

It was a shock to me when I found out that 'management style' actually meant 'personality disorder type'. Although it makes it easier to deal with them.

Managers are rarely selected due to having demonstrated any aptitude in management. It’s a problem.

This was especially true in the newspaper industry when I worked there 10-20 years ago. People were routinely promoted into line-management roles because they were fine journalists. One bloke in particular I reported into before I left the profession in 2014 was a dreadful manager but of the best journalists I ever worked with. Shame.
