That's weird when they have a buy option

It's relatively common, I think. Going on loan runs down the amortised/sell-on value in the player. If the buy option isn't taken, then another possible sale is reduced in value (or might even result in out of contract). So it's to retain the player value.

Don't worry about whether the lad can play, or not, think about the spreadsheets.

His current contract runs to the summer of 2029, so extending doesn't seem particularly urgent and if we thought there wasn't a chance he'd make it here, I can't see why they'd extend it.

I don't know specifics of this case...but there will be a reason, and it will be most likely bacause of money.

We're apparently buying a Colombian midfielder called Gustavo Puerta for €16M and sending him on loan to Oly - this is why they signed Jota on a perm last week, to free up another loan spot.

Puerta is going straight to Oly. They are buying him. Not us. We are keeping our powder dry for a big splash. Who? No fucking clue...

James Garner? That is the only one I can think of that would make me excited. By the way pulled that out my arse in case anyone was thinking otherwise. (cue gay week jokes)...

    Chicagoi: Strangely calm.

There seems to be confusion over Puerta but the Oly fans are pretty sure it's a Forest signing they're loaning.

Yes, some Greek journo was saying very much a Forest signing but out on loan. Along with the other, thought to be good enough for Forest.

Sounds to me like both clubs are briefing what their fans would like to hear. They want to hear they've got an option, so that they aren't just developing our player for us; we want to believe he can still make it here and we are using them to test him out and get him some experience, or we are lumbered with a player unwanted at championship level until 2029.

Spending all day messing about to get Jacob Murphy sums up this transfer window.

Colin Fray saying just a loan, and Forest expect Zach back at the end of the season. I like this information.

At the start of the summer, the club was briefing 4 or 5 signings. When Glasner came in and most of the way though the window, he said 4. We've signed 4.

Yeah, on Saturday, he suggested there might be some more but clearly Everton changed their minds on Armstrong (and if it's at the cost of letting Ndiaye go, that's a mistake but that's their problem) and Palace wouldn't let Henderson go.

If we stick with what we've got, that's better than panic buying Jacob Murphy or similar for £30m.

Without thinking he's useful now, or neccessarily ever will be, there's definitely a part of me that wants to see how he develops. So I would be better with that too.

He's not that far off physically, needs a bit more game nous, but nearly there on most fronts (some never get there).

If Sels gets injured we are proper fucked. And Glasner doesn’t seem to rate him.

Also odd to let two CBs go out on loan when we play three at the back.
