Gakpo is good. Don't sell good players to rivals if you don't have to.

Speaking of which, De Zerbi confirmed that Sarr has asked to leave Spurs.

Liverpool have four expensive right footed wingers who prefer to play on the left. He is the worst of them. Hope that helps.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 8:43 p.m.

In principal I agree, but when they're the ones with the big chequebook it becomes harder to say no.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 8:44 p.m.

He was supposed to be going to Spurs but maybe he watched their game v Newcastle.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 9:03 p.m.

Yes. And, as I say, three other people whoe are better.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 9:19 p.m.

Can kick. By modern systems football standards can only half run.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 9:41 p.m.

By modern standards Hendo cannot kick at all. Like the bloke but is he better the Sels? Oh well both are much better than John Victor based on the evidence so far.

Chicago: Can kick, used to run.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 9:57 p.m.

He is no Ederson, but learnt to kick better at Palace under Glasner. Sels is fine but Henderson is younger and all round better, so would be an upgrade.

  • 29 Aug 2026, 10:10 p.m.

He's 30 next March, so he's in his prime not really young any more. Has he fixed the flaw where he concedes too many from distance?

  • 29 Aug 2026, 10:31 p.m.

I would say no. I think Sels is the best of a bad bunch (our goalkeeper recruitment since the lunatic being the bunch). I have bad feelings about Hendo...nice bloke...but. Did I mention I don't like the way he chews gum? Something false bravado about it. I'm uncomfortable with a keeper unless they have something of the nutter about them...I don't care what sort, from dogging fanatic, clear bin dipping sewage eating fanatic, to definite serial killer waiting to happen. As long as the opposition (and our team) look at them and think "I'm not pushing my luck here, this twat could be capable of anything". Sels at least has a good nine yard stare, and you know he's coming right through you*. This is the starting point for goalkeeping.

Outstanding Keepers that our aspirational peer group have signed recently - Kelleher, Trafford....streets better in attribute and exectuion than anything we've had, Sels being the closest with at least a good level of the basics**. Henderson is technically okay (at least at the waving hands about, if not the kicking). But he worries me, and it's not just the chewing gum.....he just doesn't scare me at all.

    * We were reasonably good mates with Seamus when he kept the pub that we used to drink at after fives back when he was on team O'Neil at Leicester (and for a few years after). Roy Keane mentions him, and his coaching, in his book. Seamus gives the definitive goalkeeping Lesson 1: "When you come, come hard, with violence".
** Apart from he can't fucking catch the ball.

    Are we overhauling AGAIN?
Oh well. As Tricky has always said 'players come, players go'.
The promotion winning team gave us a lot of joy. Obviously there were going to be a lot of comings and goings having been promoted. I appreciated the contributions of the likes of Cook, McKenna et all, but didn't mourn their departures. It had to be.
Now we're at yet another stage of revolution, not long after that Nuno season of coming 7th and making the FA Cup semi final via several penalty shoot outs.
Players come, players go. Even though last season was a veritable shit show and even though we 'might' be signing upgrades I'm not sure I'm ready to wave goodbye to Sels, Aina, Williams. It feels a bit too soon, even for the greater long term good.
    Yes, I've now had wine.
Might watch the penalty shoot outs again. Exeter, Ipswich, Brighton. Sels saving the Ipswich penalty and Aina giving Nuno a piggy back. Yates scoring the winning penalty at Brighton and running the length of the pitch to celebrate with the Forest fans.

TLDR - some players have provided unexpected enjoyment. I'll fondly remember their contributions whilst being a bit sad they're getting churned in the hope of better / different.

I like Sels, but Hendo is an upgrade. Actually excited. Until he breaks his leg.

  • 30 Aug 2026, 1:58 a.m.

I like Sels. He arrived with little track record after various keepers including Henderson, Turner and 'others' we had including Keylor Navas.
Seriously, how the fuck did we have Keylor Navas?
Sels can make saves. His kicking is variable. But his command of the area seems weak to me. He doesn't catch stuff.
Henderson feels like an upgrade in terms of ability.
Sorry Matz. Thanks for the penalty shoot out heroics. But it seems we're getting ruthless with the Anderson money. Finally.

  • 30 Aug 2026, 7:19 a.m.

Have I not found an update yet or was it just the late night wine assuming Hendo was going to happen? I’ve only seen stuff where Palace are saying it’s not.

Armstrong deal is agreed, he is having a medical and could be announced today, Pape Sarr going to Juventus.
