Just relegated two teams from the Prem. Everything else remains the same.

So nobody comes up from the Championship via the playoffs

Edit: ignore this, just got what you mean

Do City just go through the motions for the rest of the league season, with the games being meaningless to them? Guess so. They'll not be trying very hard I imagine!

Also what happens if they win one of the cups? Do they get to play in Europe next season still from the Championship?

I'm being very careful not to giggle too much at all of this. We're not exactly living in a glass free house, best not to be throwing any stones.

I also feel a bit sorry for Anderson. Shipped to us because Newcastle needed the money, proved himself, got his move and now..........

Don't feel sorry for him. Terrific contract. Continuing to deliver. Manure will be calling soon.

Derby, Luton and Sheffield Wednesday have all suffered massive points deductions that effectively relegated them. City would be more internationally obvious but there’s no real world difference.

Derby and Luton were a bit different. There was some hope they could get out of it.

Guys all of these is great speculation, but it's what 3-5 years away with the speed this thing moves at.

And also look at the Chelsea fine, 10m was it? City will get a fine, maybe a transfer ban for year or two and perhaps an asterisk against the trophies won.

It's worth pointing out that the chelski 'sanctions' were an absolute joke.

It would be interesting to know who leaked the findings, and what the dynamics around that are. It makes it very hard for it to be swept under the carpet. Perhaps that was part of the intent.

It's hard to see how sanctions can't be deep (debilitating) and wide (over multiple seasons), given what people know and the public reaction to that. The 'ship has a massive credibility problem.

No chance. Chelski got away with it because new owners “spotted” it and self-reported.

Citeh have denied it for years, lied and obfuscated.

    They’re getting shafted.

    Down by Christmas I reckon.

They’ve been found guilty, now they can appeal. The punishment can be handed out sharpish though. Soon as the calculators figure out how many trillion pts dedcucted.

Lots of folks confusing what they would like to happen with what will happen.

I suspect City leaked it so they can claim the whole process was inept, corrupt, biased etc eetc. And probably go to real court to mire things up for more years.

As Tricky says follow the money. And it's all with City owners.

Surely there's a case that the cheating during those specific seasons has had an enormous impact on City's ability to compete in subsequent seasons. They wouldn't have the squad they currently have without all the cheating over previous seasons.

I don't think that's possible due to the FA handbook. They can't even go to CASS.

Recommend everyone listens to the price of football podcast from a few days ago for a good summary.

But that works in reverse as well. If they got, say, a 50 point deduction that relegated them, it would mean they'll take a massive hit to their income for a season at least. Which would make it almost impossible for them not to breach the current PSR rules, I'd have thought.

Something I haven't really seen discussed is why the period in question ends in 2018. According to the BBC ( www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/c63reg93xwzro ) they inflated their income by £135m in 2017/18 (the biggest year in the period in question).

Their commercial revenue dropped slightly the following year: www.statista.com/statistics/251154/revenue-of-manchester-city-by-stream/?srsltid=AU7gw4X8CoGRYHb-nyiilpO99xF2j5bzZoqkwj0BIHSyM4-HfoYbDa9F but not much and it went up significantly over the next 5 years, so did they suddenly find legitimate sources of revenue?

When they were cheating they had no global brand to sell so they had to make sham contracts to generate funds. Once they started winning stuff they built a global reputation and network of clubs that gave them a platform for more legitimate sponsorship.

    I guess.
