Tonight we shall be off to see Diivdo their sub MBV shoegaze thing which is nevertheless nicely engaging. It's also our wedding anniversary so likely to get pretty messy.

I like the Fact that 2024 Mark Knoffler sounds like latter day Johnny Cash. Melancholy and bluesy. Me likey.

Generally hate Dire Straits after Telegraph Road.

    Chicago: Getting old.

Tonight I will be seeing the Damned at Rock City, only as I got the offer of a freebie. I like the Damned circa 77-80 not sure about their 2020s incarnation.

Eloise, at least, is still brilliant. I'm hesitant to revisit Phantasmagoria because I can't imagine it aged at all well.

Diiv were excellent. Started off quietly but cranked it right up for the last third. Lots of interspliced political film with more than a hint of Negativland.

    Kerrang top 50 2024

Odd list. I think I prefer the albums further down the list than the top but have to say some of these bands I haven't listened to.

    Top Ten.

    10).Speed - One More Mode
    9). Green Day - Saviours
    8) Gatekeeper - Dark Superstitions
7). Linkin Park - From Zero
    6). Poppy - Negative Spaces
5). High Vis - Guided Tour
    4) Twenty One Pilots - Clancy
    3) Amy & The Sniffers - Cartoon Darkness
    2) Bring Me The Horizon - Post Human Next Gen
    1) Knocked Loose - You Won't go Before You Are Supposed to.

I think I am getting old as I haven't heard one single Knocked Loose song. Or even heard of High Vis. Better get to work.

Chicago: Reaching For The Headphones. .

Top three album of the year for me. It's magnificent. But it's Gatecreeper, not Gatekeeper.

Knocked Loose are great, but they're not for everyone. Even a lot of hardcore fans struggle with his voice, me included. I want to like them more than I do.

    1. Didn't know they had a new album, will have to check it out
    2. Would never have had them down as a Kerrang type band.

    It's Amyl not Amy.

Did you type all these out or is Kerrang littered with errors?

Sorry. I was doing the list between clients and I didn’t have my glasses on. Seems I am going very blind in my old age.

It really is disconcerting how quickly my eyes have gone to the dogs.

    Chicago: like Korn - “Blind”…

Listening to the BMTH album in the gym. It's very good, if you like that sort of thing. For people who wished My Chemical Romance were into ecstasy.

    This will enrage Tricky

Extremely interesting article. It's 1000% true even if I am more interested in curating songs than most. Kids nowadays without the old school way of discovering music (I.E. radio but more importantly magazines and record stores..), will soon be without free will.

    Chicago: Cynical.

You’d be surprised how kids discover music. TikTok et al, for all their ills opens up all kinds of genres they normally won’t touch.

I teach majority Hispanic, 15-18 year olds from low income families who are constantly surprising me by extolling the virtues of everyone from the Smiths/ The Cure, to Aphex Twin, to Nick Drake/Jeff Buckley.

I have no doubt that your formative years have been talked about and they (your students…) have investigated your weird foreign youth, because in music, different is cooler. At least to the young.

Of course they are wrong because nothing beats Twisted Sister…

    Chicago: Old skool Cool.
