I have no doubt that your formative years have been talked about and they (your students…) have investigated your weird foreign youth, because in music, different is cooler. At least to the young.

Of course they are wrong because nothing beats Twisted Sister…

That’s it though, they come in knowing this stuff. They might bring it up and we’ll talk about it but it’s not my influence.
And I’m sure you’d appreciate that one of my students last year possessed, by my count. at least four separate Nazareth tshirts.

Well since they are from poor neighbourhoods one would guess that the kids may have got these from their parents shopping at the consignment/thrift stores in the area. Something wifey and I used to do all the time when we first moved to the Chicagoland area. I mean Nazareth are cool and all being from Scotland and all that but I wouldn’t guess they are all that hip. Or the family is religious…

I’m just pointing out they still discover all kinds of music. Just in more varied ways. At one point kids were getting in to all kinds of music just through playing Rock Band and the fashion for old school band shirts.

The Kids getting their music from algorithms seem pretty chill about black people headlining Glastonbury, which my generation, who scoured HMV for that rare Hurricane #1 B-sides compilation, sure-as-shit seems to have a problem with.

    So maybe they’re doing ok.

I have discovered that Tanita Tikaram, the 90s two hit wonder, has continued to make music and is in fact a rather wonderful jazz/soul singer and pianist.

Last night I went to see The Jesus Lizard for the first time since I think 91/91. Quite brutally brilliant, each riff is a threat. What hey do is surprisingly complex but just doesnt sound it, in a very good way. David Yow is mid 60s, looks like a dangerous drunk which he once was, but was in the crowd from the first song. Superb

I saw Tanita Tikaram live at the Royal Centre back in 1990 or maybe 1991. I was that kid who preferred her to Wendy James.

Well, that isn't strictly true, but I don't think they'd have got on if I had them both.

Maybe survivor instinct would have kicked in, and they would have worked together?

I suspect Wendy James wouldn't have cared.

Tanita would have been much more into Wendy than you.

I could have lived with that to be fair.

They’ve had a (pretend) feud with The Hives for much of the year that I’ve found quite fun to follow.
