You're right. I should try to see it from your perspective...tramp up a hill in crampons in sub-zero temperatures and get the feelz first hand. Except I'm fucked if I'm going out of the house for this exercise in nascent misery. I'll have to make a mountain out of whatever is to hand, something glossy that mimics an ice shelf when coated with water, and frozen in the fridge.

Although I could stand on a stool under my broken downpipe, in the current weather, and get a pretty close approximation.

I've walked up hills in the cold and rain before. I haven't forgotten so much that I need to travel thousands of miles, to walk up hills in the cold and rain, again.

You should see it from my perspective. That is the point. It is not miserable. I am not asking you to
Do it. I love new experiences. I don’t mind the cold at all. Also Peru. Not that cold. Not sure what you are moaning about apart from the fact that you like moaning.

    Weirdo.

That's fine. Could you restrict your new experiences, that you love, to ones that don't kill the planet for the kidz? Ta. Only, you melting the polar ice caps is making it fucking cold and wet here.

    Walking and tents?

I'd like to do it maybe one day, but it would be train and I think it's a Belmond hotel at the top.

I have arrived back in Canada. It's -26 with windchill.

It is -17F here which is probably quite a bit cold in Celcius. Just checked -27.C.

I went running with just my shorts and shoes no socks or shirt on Sunday when it was a mere -10F . I ran for 12 minutes at a hardy pace and didn't get cold. it was refreshing. The problem is (Cold running doesn't hurt my knees), that I am not cardio match fit and after basically sprinting for that time I go back inside and realized I was totally knackered.

Spend the rest of the day on the sofa watching sports. Win win!

    Chicago: Lazy sod.

And of yeah, I know where Wifey wants to go for her 50th Birthday which will involve flying which will upset Tricky. Montenegro.

Taking the train down to London for the day for work. Was meant to be on the 06:27 from Sheffield to Doncaster, then the 07:14 from Doncaster to Kings Cross. It's a bit cheaper than going direct, and only adds 8 minutes. However due to the storm, the Doncaster to Kings Cross leg was cancelled (I noticed last night, no thanks to LNER, they really should have sent an email). I could get the next train from Doncaster at 07:35, but I decided to leave a bit earlier and get the one before my cancelled one instead at 06:48. LNER also gave the option to just move my tickets to Monday instead, but I'd already packed my bag and arranged to have lunch with someone in London, so I decided to push ahead (my wife didn't think it was a good idea). So I cycled to the station this morning at 05:30 in the wind and rain. Now about 40 minutes from London though. Warm and dry and the rain is empty. I think I made the right decision.

Have you got a brother, or cousin, or mate, or anyone really we can sub you out for? A pet hamster would do.

New job with the Council requires when travelling for work purposes we use the bus wherever possible. So this morning I've caught the 6:25 to Cardiff.

Surprisingly comfortable seats! Sneaked into emergency exit row, hoping to avoid any upgrade fee. Glorious legroom, more than premium economy. My own dedicated USB charging socket, but no entertainment suite. It's cute that you can pay as you board, though there seems to be no host and I'm mildly concerned breakfast won't be served. The other passengers are more Ryan Air than Royal Jordanian. One is broadcasting her phonecall to the rest of us passengers, and her munching on crisps is no less intrusive. Another lady has boarded smelling more of a distilled discount store's clearance aisle than Baccarat Rouge.

Driver seems to have buggered off. We've stopped somewhere in Merthyr. Not the best part of town, but I don't think the best part of town exists.

There's been huge investment in rail infrastructure across south Wales. Today I am taking the train from Cardiff Bay to Merthyr Tydfil, before having to get a bus for the rest of the journey. £5.40 isn't bad for the 30 mile journey.
