We were there in February when it was still coat-and-hat weather. I remember thinking I'd really struggle to explore the city on foot in the heat of summer, so fair play on that.

Beautiful place, though. We really liked it. This was quite a quirky place to eat.

All this America talk got me wondering about maybe spending a month in SF next summer. I could work from our office there and my wife's company allows you to work remotely for upto 6 weeks a year. So I started dreaming. We'd find some summer camp type things for Little Miss Shady to do maybe 3 days a week and take long weekends for a month and see the area. But as @JRs_Cigarette said it looks pretty tricky VISA-wise. You can do upto 3 months there, but the primary purpose would need to be holiday + some meetings / training etc. Not "day to day" work. Reckon I might manage to get away with that, but I wouldn't back Mrs Shady under interrogation from a customs officer! So then I started looking up where DOES allow that sort of thing, and it seems Canada does, so maybe Vancouver would be a good idea or even Toronto (though I've been before, so not as exciting tbh).

Also it means spending money in the US who are an utter cunt of a nation right now. Difficult not to give them money, certainly in what I do, but there are more deserving nations for your holiday spends.

Yeah.. don’t wanna be all ‘that thing you like is shit’ about it.. but the US is shitting on the world right now and we can’t do much about that.. but not going there feels pretty easy. If you wouldn’t holiday in Russia or Israel right now, why would you holiday in the US?

I live here and I approve this message. Hit these cunts where it hurts. Money’s the only thing they give a shit about.

I often wonder whether it’s just rose-tinted glasses for the past but I swear services, food quality, etc has gone to total shit the last couple of years. Everything is owned by private equity and it’s ruining/ruined quality of life. And that’s before you get to the utter shitshow of a kakistocracy that makes up the current administration.

Likewise. Although I'm taking the positive, in that I had the time to sort out a sound issue* on a dual boot laptop I'm setting up, before work.

    * Speakers behaving like Headphone's and vica versa.

We have Brecon Jazz festival this weekend, and I live directly opposite one of the many non-jazz venues that will be spouting out bollocks covers until 2:00am every night. So I'm getting my sleep in now, and what a lovely night I just had.

I'm at a hotel by Heathrow on my way back from Croatia. Having spent the previous 5 days staying up until daylight consuming industrial quantities of alcohol and narcotics, getting six hours of sleep, and then doing it all over again, I had a massive pizza and then 10 glorious hours of sober and unbroken sleep last night.

Totally get the sentiment obviously, but, in mine and Jim's defence, we only get a finite amount of time with Little Miss BW and Little Miss Shady - and there are lots of places to try to visit before they no longer want to (with us).

It's a tough fact of life that cunts are everywhere and are always best avoided. There's also a clear link between cuntitude and positions of power or high office, which is a pity.

That said, you can't spend your life running from them or you'd never do anything. For example, we continued to do days trips and weekends in London, spending hundreds of pounds in the capital's economy, when Boris Johnson was Mayor and when the Conservative Party were churning out cunt after cunt as Prime Minister. Should we not have done that?

I'm genuinely sorry for Americans, and the wider world, that one of their biggest ever cunts currently resides in the White House and has a band of acolytes doing his cunty bidding. But I can't get on board I'm afraid with boycotting their incredible country and all its amazing sights until someone better is in charge. How long do Jim and I have to wait?

  • 4 Aug 2026, 10:36 a.m.

Sure. But you’re definitely going to run out of time before you run out of places.. so picking another place during this particular era is clearly an option.

I guess there’s always a difference between the country you’re in and any you might visit. Also.. none of those Tory cunts invaded anywhere, kidnapped and foreign leaders, or launched missile attacks on any fishermen. Some of them probably weren’t even rapists. It’s a totally fair point to make… but there are degrees.

The US has been a bully cunt of a country forever. Personally, I reckon this current lot are unusually awful. But yeah.. there are cunts and we can’t avoid them all.

Dunno. I would love to visit and see things there and maybe I never will for a host of reasons. Of course you’ll do what you want to do.. not what a couple of random internet cunts would maybe do if they were in your situation.

You do as you need. Was just a thing that needed saying in this hallowed place. Its not a 3 line whip. But as has been said, there are many other magnificent places in the World to see: the travel "boycott" is hitting in large part due to those lovely Canadians and I would argue that Bojo was a petulent child in comparison to the uber cunt existential threat that is Trump.

  • 4 Aug 2026, 11:32 a.m.

Personally, I’d love to go back to California but won’t as long as Trump is in charge and I feel that I’d be supporting the US financially. That’s my decision and others are available. Apart from that, what can you do realistically? Boycott Starbucks, Costa and McDonalds, all of which I currently do, but it seems like a dribble of piss in the wind.

  • 4 Aug 2026, 11:35 a.m.

The way things are going, you might be in luck with visiting California in the future.
