330 odd KM to Copenhagen, so testing the adaptive cruise control. It really encourages you to sit in the middle lane and explains some of the shit driving in the UK. I'm sure you can alter the setting for the distance between yourself and the car in front before it brakes, but currently it seems to be about 500m, and then it hits the brakes. In addition, it encourages sudden lane movements rather than drifting easily across lanes because it also slams the brakes on when you are in between lanes as it still detects the car in front. I rate it half a triceratops.
KM almost crashed us into the car in front after the game while adjusting the radio to get Colin Fray on, so I'm not sure it's the system that's crap so much as his driving.
Rav 4. Maybe you get used to it. What I particularly didn't like was the way it would put on the brakes as you moved to overtake if it thought you were too close to the car in front. I often wonder why the fuck people would move in front of me on the motorway and then apply the brakes; now I know.
0 accidents in 34 years. But then, I haven't had someone sitting in the back insisting on linking their phone to the car so they can listen to Colin Fray before.
I have it on my Volvo and it’s excellent, can select distance from car in front etc and it only brakes harshly if the car in front does. It’ll often ease off acceleration to slow instead.
Great stuff. I use it often. Awesome on a long journey and commuting through Nottm I set it to 40 for the average speed zones so don’t have to worry about forgetting.
Yes, I use cruise control in my car all of the time, even when driving in 30 zones, but it's the old fashioned one that doesn't care how close the car in front is. I know you can adjust settings, but given it took JR Cigarette and me about 10 minutes to figure out how to turn on the front and rear window demister (the mist being caused by Jim Shady yapping in the back), I would probably still be sat outside the stadium now trying to figure it out. I eventually worked it out by slamming the console with my hand.
As for connecting to Android Auto, despite how much I cursed and swore, it just wasn't having it this morning. For some reason it wouldn't connect via Bluetooth and it turned out the USB cable I was using was knackered.
I tested the lane assist for a while, but the car insisted I kept my hands on the steering wheel. I can see the combination of lane assist and adaptive cruise control being extremely useful for drunk drivers.
