It is indeed. The alternative is to pot a colour and try to get position on the next red which is where a lot of misses come from. When playing a better player, it makes more sense to bank the points and play a safety rather than miss the pot and leave them on an easy red which allows them to make a sizeable break.

By following this tactic, I was making him frustrated and he started missing pots he expected to get.

I don't really follow snooker at all, much less play it, but I've become weirdly quite emotionally invested in KM's snooker league exploits.

How is the tip replacement thing working out?

Had a call to say my car's ready, so I'm on a bus to go and get it. They've got this fancy tap on tap off malarkey nowadays.

    It's already late.

It seems to be ok now. The new tip is harder so it's taken some getting used to, and a bit of reshaping, but I have more confidence now that it's in good order.

Do you find that the tip has most impact on your shots, or is the control of the shaft more important?

I suspect tip control is more important when potting the brown. Shaft comes into play more when sinking the pink.

And when, from time to time, you play for the pink only to discover it is being covered by the red, do you go for the tricky brown into the back pocket, or do you play a swerve ball and smash the pink anyway?

Definitely stay away from the tricky brown, or you're likely to get a stroke that smashes a couple of red balls out of the pocket, onto the floor, and out of the door. Stiff shaft or not.

About to watch a bit of indoor bowls on the BBC. I don’t fully understand the game, apart from the need to get the big balls as close as possible to the small ball, but it is fascinating from a social perspective. The venue is a hideous all inclusive caravan park sort of place - the kind that would probably give cruise ships a good name. The audience is about 99% pensioner, so who knows how many paramedics are on standby. The players are often a bit younger and mainly very nerdy. They look like the sort of adults that tech bros would have become if they hadn’t spent so long wanking over their computers as kids.

It’s wifey and I’s 28th Wedding anniversary today. We went to dinner last night at a fancy Indian tasting menu restaurant. I didn’t get full but I did get poor. The whole thing for the two of us cost an astounding $520. Also the restaurant put an extra surcharge into the bill and when I asked about it the waiter blurted something about paying the kitchen staff a fair wages but they would refund it if I liked. I looked it up. It’s something Chicago Restaurants are charging now for overheads and Hope nobody notices but will take it off the bill if somebody does.

    Fucking hell…

No wonder no-one is eating out anymore…

Mine's automatic, apart from putting in the descaler. Machine runs a cleaning cycle.

A post worthy of the thread title, if ever I saw one.

Were you bullied a lot at school, and if not why not?

I tried to vaguely keep it secret to avoid this. But of course it came out. The bowls club we played at in WB had tennis courts next to the bowls green, and someone saw me playing once while they were playing tennis. It was exasperated when, in an inter-form cricket match, I was fielding and kind of accidentally bowled the ball back to the stumps along the ground rather than throw it much to everyone's amusement. I think I was more ignored than bullied!
