    Band or country?

    You've seen The Grudge?

Bought my first ever pair of Doc Martens in the sale at the Soho shop yesterday (Bond Street store had sold out of the ones I liked).

Lot more than I would normally spend on a pair of brown ankle boots but hoping these will last a fair while if I look after them. Bought some (Hush Puppies, I think) last year which have pretty much fallen apart in a little over 12 months.

I'm not surprised, slippers aren't meant to be worn outside.

I bought a pair of Clarks boots off Vinted 18 months ago, new with tags, £15. Wore them for work for a year, now when out in poor weather. Fabulous.

CAT boots here, for everything except exercise. Being a clumsy cunt I'm a big fan of a steel toe cap.

I have now put on my 14 eye chinese doc-copies (£30.95 delivered) in homage. They haven't been outside yet, so they can fulfil the role of slippers in the short run. Also have a more normal pair of 8 eye's (£21.22 delivered). They have done duty outdoors.

Changed the tip on my Snooker cue today as the old one had become lopsided and rather worn. The last time I changed the tip on a cue it was an unmitigated disaster and the tip lasted about 3 days. That was about 35 years ago though.

This time I took an intensive course of watching a YouTube video by Barry Stark and changing a tip. Piece of piss of course. Prise the old tip off and scrape away any residue. No problem. Apply super glue gel to cue and place tip in centre. Ah! Firstly, the gel refused to leave its tube unless I applied extreme pressure at which point it ejaculated a large blob. Of course, I got it all over my fingers, and once I'd placed the tip, it came off as it stuck to my thumb.

Try again. A bit more successful, but unfortunately I was in such a rush to place the tip before the gel started drying I placed the tip upside down and rendered it utterly useless.

Grab a new tip from the box. Manage to get it on without it sticking to me and apply pressure. Doesn't look quite centred, so try to slide it slightly, whereupon it comes off and my thumb sticks to the top of the cue. Much swearing ensues.

Try number 3 and I finally get it satisfactorily centred and leave to dry. Lots of trimming and sanding later, I finally have a tip that looks vaguely playable. Far from a perfect dome shape, so I'll probably have to reshape tomorrow as I break it in.

I'm truly terrible with anything involving arts and crafts. My phone has only just started recognising my thumbprint now that some of the glue is peeling off. Far easier to pay someone else to do a professional job

It wont come as any massive surprise to you that I have ten's of cues, and have tipped them all. Including a couple that are cues I made for special purposes (short hampered shots, break cue) and made the tips myself (leather. tip press. It's not hard). Given many years of aggressive tip shaping I have also re-ferruled a few cues.

You might have to take that tip off if the gel has soaked into the tip. You want it able to accept the chalk - unless you like a fucking hard shiny tip (Mark Williams).

That doesn't surprise me at all.

It hasn't soaked into the tip, that's the reason for using gel instead of liquid glue. It is a medium/hard tip but not like stone the way Mark Williams has.

It's a bit irritating because I am playing the league leader on Tuesday and can't practice tomorrow as there is a tournament on at the club. The league leader has a handicap just 7 lower than mine and he is a very good player so I will be thumped. It's a shame I can't try out the tip as I managed a 27 break today despite the old, knackered tip and was hoping to break it in. Can't practice on Monday as I have an appointment in a shithole called Wolverhampton. Will have to rely on a few frames with a friend before the match on Tuesday. Am expecting a 3-0 trouncing, requiring snookers before we reach the colours.
