And yet we all knew this would happen

    Chicago: Going analog.

Going by the increase in media coverage of AI, it seems the world is finally waking up to its dangers. Far too late of course, and in any case I can’t imagine governments and big tech having the sense to introduce anything more than token regulation.

Luckily we've all been really careful with our private data, so when it comes to wiping us out AI will have nothing to go on.

Yeah but if American AI doesn't wipe out humanity, China might get there first. And then where would we be?

Danny Tommo's 'buy me mam a new gaff' crowd-fund has hit nearly £60,000 overnight. Hilarious, and also tragic.

He's felt compelled to post this morning saying his mum will 'only take what she needs' and the rest will go into a legal war chest to take on the Daily Mail. Christmas in the Caribbean for the Tommos this year, then?

Unless I'm missing something, his gripe with the Mail seems to be that they door-stepped his mum. Presumably finding the address from Companies House where DT had previously registered one of his companies.

It's a while since I read Essential Law for Journalists, but I'm not sure that's going to pass the legal smell-test for defamation or intrusion of privacy. Still, him and Yaxley-Lennon will have made a few quid out of it.

Maybe it serves the interests of the AI companies to puff up stories about how dangerous it is because it gives the impression that the lying chatbots aren’t just lying chatbots.

Don't be sniffy. I think we all owe a debt of gratitude to anthropic, on the back of the news that they are trying not to help people make biological weapons. Who needs regulation when companies are showing this level of benevolence?

On a similar note I explained to our eldest yesterday why you can't store ammonium nitrate near petrol. A lot of questions followed and I'm surprised the school haven't been in touch today. Or the counter terror police.

It's also a great selling line to those countries who are rather more safety-lax and peace-averse.

What are we going to do about the lying fascists funded by malign foreign actors to destabilise our country?
