Palace overpaid as they were desperate in January. He should have been more in the £25m ballpark.

That said, he's young mobile strong and can score goals. He's only going up.

That's some pretty selective stats too. Here's his career record:

Got to take context also. His bad year at Wolves ... well they were dreadful. No wonder he didn't score many. Then his appearances last year at Palace - he only joined in January and lots were as a sub. Even then, new city, new team, 3 goals in 14 appearances isn't terrible.

Yes, Wolves were dreadful. In part because they didn't score many goals, which was his job.

But I wasn't arguing he's necessarily a bad player, although I don't think he's great. I was making the point that Palace's acquisition strategy has been awful, particularly when spending bigger money, and £48M for Strand Larsen is a prime example - as you said yourself, he's maybe closer to value at half that.

Brennan to Everton is done. I wonder how much involvement Glasner had in Palace's transfer strategy. I hope little to none, because it has been fucking shite. Brennan, Strand Larsen, Nketiah, Benteke - over £100M on garbage.

Brennan is anything but garbage. Largely mismanaged. The others, fair point.

All of them are capable footballers, but Palace hugely overpaid for all of them and then failed to use them in a way that would capitalize on their limited skillsets.

Benteke left Palace in 2022, OG joined in 2024, so he's not bearing any responsibility for that.

I think that's a little overly-simplistic. Struggling sides obviously don't tend to retain possession of the ball for very long in games, nor do they create a bunch of high-quality opportunities for their strikers. Forward players often therefore snatch at chances when they come along because it might be the only one they get in 90 minutes.

I'd agree that I don't see a huge amount in Strand Larsen - albeit from a very select sample size of viewings - to suggest he's a player worth close to £50m, but using his team's lack of goals as a stick to beat him with seems harsh.

Very few players are Thierry Henry or Stan Collymore (Strand Larsen absolutely is not) and able to pick the ball up in their own half, dribble past half the opposition and score from anywhere. For the rest, you're relying on your teammates massively and Wolves were abysmal last season in that regard.

If a striker's goalscoring record is entirely a function of his team's quality then he's not worth close to £50M, was my point. Case in point: Chris Wood, not a striker anyone is ever going to compare to Thierry Henry or Stan Collymore, has a consistently good top flight scoring record despite playing for Burnley, Leeds, and Forest, none of which anyone would have described as being good Premier League teams bar one remarkable Nuno season.

He's had 2 good years in 7? Those are rookie numbers that would get you labeled a lump if you were Delap.

Done deal. Given Djed's somewhat mercurial nature, I don't have high hopes of this turning out well.

In what way? He'll have a nice couple of years in Milan and earn tons of money.

I think we might confuse mercenaries with "people who like to travel" sometimes. I often think if I was a footballer I'd want to play in as many leagues and countries as I could. People would call me a "journeyman" and it wouldn't be a compliment.

Off on the hour mark at 3-0 down and with Darren Fletcher saying he can't remember the last time, for England or Forest, he'd seen Anderson touch the ball so few times.

He'll be fine. Too good not to be, but looks like City's transition from the previous coach may take a little time.

I don't see how Anderson is a £116million player in a team that dominates possession. He is at his best breaking up opposition play and sending a quick counter on its way.

To be fair he looked like England's best midfielder at the WC, and we had lots of possession.
