Really? He had a good first ten. Now every defender in his post code in on a yellow and he’s been unable to take anyone on or produce anything. His touch from Kane’s pass before the non-penalty was risible. Madueke is truly awful.
Definitely should have TAA in there. The left back has given the ball away hand over fist, and for all the good work Kane has done in the box, I'd rather it was their box. Defensively untested and weak. I'd pick this midfield three though.
It's actually really fun when you've got players who are so close in degrees of separation. Like having every player as ex-Forest. I played 5-a-side against a World Cup goalie, for example. He was a rubbish defender, fwiw.
It was interesting, at least. Mexico looked really sharp. The first and third sendings off were fair enough, and each stupid in a different way. The middle one was rough: Mexican tries to reverse into a South African who kind of swat him to one side and incidentally clips the guy's head - which is below shoulder level. red card for raising hands. Commentators were absolutely fine with it and I thought it was rubbish.
Returned home via train from NYC*, first sight that greeted me as I walked to the office to pick up my car, was two Scots fans , both wearing kilts walking to the fanzone they have installed next to the train station. Driving home must have passed close to 50 more fortunately non kilt wearing.
what a fun place to be last night, walked back into the hotel and the outdoor bar as the Knicks were losing by points. 5 of us decided to stay for one more drink just to watch the 4th quarter -one became several more as the Knicks came back to take the lead and ultimately win the game, place became electric at the end. We ended being the last to leave the bar at 2am....
Watched in a bar in Toronto with RD formerly of these shores, who's out here working on a commentary crew with a former Century 106 commentator we're all familiar with. We were impressively hungover after an unexpectedly heavy and late night last night but the hordes of Mexico fans made it a very fun atmosphere.
Mangetout is obviously objectively wrong about the third sending off which was at the very most an orange card, but likely a make up for how bad the second SA red was. Suspect neither of the last two reds will actually get suspensions, and that ref might not get another game. Highlight was RD saying "three red cards in this game, there were only four in the entire 2022 World Cup" and then the commentator saying it two minutes later. I looked at him and he said "where do you think I got it from?" It was like watching the sausage being made in real time.
