I think it definitely looks better with no banner, although this is very much the "fuck off we don't want any new friends" stage of Talkback's life if we go with that because it's a deeply unwelcoming look.

Discussed here. I perceive it to be a diminishing return (extra effort on my part, probably wont be user selectable, will add a maintenance overhead as theming changes in the future), given it works well in a browser dark mode. If you really want it. There's something that you can do.

We are not, and never have been, into cheap advertisement. People come here because they know what to expect. Which is not a warm welcome.

This is now the default theme, with no banner mods. Which has advantages in terms of maintenance and upgrades.

    Definitely better

With the assistance of the software author, I have added a minor mod such that threads with new posts should now be underlined in mobile view. Can people check that's the behaviour they are seeing?

Creating new post to check for myself.

Some threads are now underlined for me, but remain underlined after I've read all the posts in the thread

    Seems to work for me

But to echo @Joanna, they stay underlined even when the page is refreshed

Have you tried reading the posts by following the underlined thread title (rather than navigating to the post another way)?

When I do that and hit Return to Home it shows without automatic underlining. It will underline if you hover over it, but that's a different matter.....

Yes I've clicked the underlined title itself, read and refreshed every page, clicked return to home rather than just the phones back key, and it's still underlined, even after posting on the thread it remained unchanged.

(This is all using a mobile so no hovering. Some are permanently underlined, some aren't)

Try logging out of talkcab from the profile drop down, refreshing the site, and logging back in (this should just be pressing the Sign In buttan and accepting the consent again - as you should already be logged in with the authentication provider.

I can only assume that this is some sort of client (your browser) side caching. I am not seeing that behaviour.

I am absolutely terrified of logging out and having to attempt to log back in again. I am still not over the QR code/authentication trauma.
Will it make me jump through those hoops again if I do that?

It just did the same for me, I repeated the process and the underline disappeared.

    What process?

If, when you logged in to turnstile, you ticked remember me, and you haven't logged out of turnstile, and you haven't cleared your cookies, no - you should just be able to log out of talkcab and when choosing Sign In it will remember all of your details.

This is one of the advantages of what is a single sign on (SSO) backend. I believe the current timeout period for authenitcation cookies is 1 month. That is the period that you have to renew authentication unless the other things that I mention happen (or I reboot the stack, and clear the cache).

I don't remember seeing a box to tick.. I was having a temper tantrum at the time because of not being able to scan a qr code, that was on my phone, with my phone, and the "secret" thing wouldn't work.
I don't think I'll risk it just yet.
