Talkback's utter disregard for FIFA's disgraceful dog and pony show.

    I'd rather watch Sabaton.

I'm sure someone will tell me who's playing who at some point before the tournament starts.

I was pleased to see Lando Norris win the championship on Sunday but he's a bit to nice for me to get behind the cause.

One lucky bastard today. Bought a new phone a couple of months back and today, like a complete dunce, placed it on top of the car while I took my coat off to drive back from Castleton.

Halfway home (at least 20 miles of 50mph driving up hill and down dale), I realise I can't see my phone. We pull over and Mrs BW checks Life360 - last seen in Castleton. Shit. She rings it. Mercifully, we can hear the phone vibrating somewhere but can't find it on the floor or in my coat pocket, etc. Get out of the car and there it is - still on the roof.

Seems both the top of the car and the base of my phone are magnetic. Didn't see it in the optional extras but must be a safely feature for twats.

Bradford and Bromley scoring 90th and 92nd minute winners to land me a 5 team accumulator for £430.
Oh and Fester lost at home.
    Happy Boxing Day.

Won the Boxing Day pub quiz in the village with Mrs Simon, Mr Simon snr and, errr, my mum. Despite thinking, for some reason, that Roger Taylor played drums on Band Aid.

Got sick of Microsoft slowing my laptop to a crawl while bleating at me to upgrade to W11, so today I did indeed suck it up and upgrade. To Ubuntu.

I'm currently playing with nixos. It's a complete phase shift in how general purpose computers work, and really is the solution to a lot of problems. Unfortunately I'm not quite at the stage of being able to get it to work how I want it to yet. There are a load of extra problems.

But building a complete declarative system from a config file(s), to put it into a completely known and definiable state, to be able to use totally up to date software without dependency issues, to be able to have multiple versions of software, and to be able to do things like completely wipe the system on reboot (impermenance), is totally magical.

A lovely Thai guy I know started supporting Forest when we won the European Cup in his childhood and has for longer than I've known him run an unofficial Forest supporters club in Thailand. A couple of months ago he sent Steve Stone and Ian Woan a couple of Forest branded t-shirts he'd had printed out there. Both sent him a photo of them wearing it, and Woan sent him a video message.

Yesterday he received Woan's training shirt and a card from Woan and his wife. He's absolutely delighted, Ian Woan is his favourite player of all time.

Doesn't surprise me about Woany at all. Always been a good guy, generous with his time. Tank (IFC, not boost) used to sponsor his shirt, and Woany was always the last one there on sponsor day. I last saw him at a New Years day do in Colston Bassett, when he was at Swindon.

Still incredibly generous with his time, after he'd finished playing. Just a good guy*.

    * As most footballers are.

Pumped up junky athletes The Tour de France is coming to my town on July 4th 2027. Thinking of the route they could take through town, there's a 50/50 chance it'll go past my front door.

Think I'll be working the second stage of the TdF Femmes (Manchester-Peak District-Sheffield). Planning on going to Liverpool for the finish of stage two of the men's race a month earlier.

Finally bought myself a mini-PC, refurbished HP-260 G3 mini PC off eBay for £45. Hooked it up to the TV as an alternative media player and retro gaming machine. Tried Batocera, but immediately hated it. Installed Ubuntu, then added Steam, RetroArch and GrayJay. Bookmarked a couple of interesting websites and cancelled my NOW TV subscription that was coming to the end of its promo period.

    Next up, Kodi.

-15c here at present with a feels like of -22, 12-18 inches of snow forecast tomorrow through Monday morning, haven’t had to use the snowblower in 3 1/2 years.. so expecting a day of misery to get it working, after buying new fuel as the fuel set aside even with stabilizer is probably not going to work.

Fuel added, spark plug casually checked…. One pull on the starter cable and boom!! Worked first time.. no more glorious a sound. Happy, Happy Days..
