So that there are more Saturday games (from Tuesday) than Sunday games (from Thursday)?
Although having just checked the weekend split is 4 Sat / 6 Sun.

I'm not sure that would explain the complete lack of afternoon matches on New Year's Day, nor would it explain why we can't have fewer matches today and more on Thursday. We've already got more next Sunday (6) than Saturday (4), so it's not like it's to protect next Saturday either (which I would argue is less important than NYD fixtures anyway).

Presumably it’s the way the fixtures have fallen, because no one can play Thursday & Saturday.
