I have no problem with that if your loud conversation isn’t making other people’s activities, like watching TV or reading, impossible. Which is what Mrs Charlie does.

I do it at home if it's something I want Mrs les to listen to so I can't be accused of misunderstanding. Never outside. They do it walking past our house all the time. Arrogant.

On the phone I talk. Which is what most people describe as 'shouting'. I use the phone primarily so that I can hear the other side of the conversation. They probably don't really need it. I mostly use it on speakerphone because I prefer not to hold the phone to my head.

....but I try not to take calls when in public, unless it's possibly time critical. I make them in the car, or office, and if I'm not in a good place to talk when the phone goes I tell someone who has rung me that, and ring them back if it's important. I am not really in the habit of speaking on the phone much. I don't always answer the phone....if I'm not somewhere it's convenient to take a call, I often just let it ring out.

I don't get tense if someone interrupts what I am doing because they need to do something on the phone...it's the way of the world. I just entertain myself for a bit until they are done. but they aren't likely to be interrupting something important like watching the telly...because I don't do that any more. If someone wants to Dom Joly around on the phone, it doesn't bother me. Should I be annoyed that someone has just found out their nan has had a fall, got a bit excited on the phone, and be tense about it? Life's too short.

I did not see that coming when I started reading Tricky's post.

My kitchen appliances have decided to go on the fritz all at the same time. First the microwave started being a bit flaky, but it's old, so I figured I'll think about replacing it soon. Then one of the LCDs on the clock on the cooker burned out, which is probably too much hassle to get fixed and not a big enough issue to justify replacing the whole cooker, but very annoying. And now the mechanism on my coffee maker which funnels coffee from the grinder to the basket is playing up, meaning it jams if I don't get it perfectly lined up.

It's fifteen years since I set up my house...in the last couple of months I've lost the dishwasher, the washer, the drier, the boiler has been condemned, the thermal store/cylinder has gone, and the oven has karked.

I wont be fixing them all.

That all sounds expensive. At least microwaves and coffee machines are relatively inexpensive to replace.

Everything we have is brand new so we don't have to worry about anything for about 10 years. After that I am sure I will be pulling out whatever hair I have left on my head.

Tune in next season as Chic’s appliances gain sentience and attack his mother-in-law.

It's funny you should say that. We have a brand new Telly that apparently is assisted by A.I. And it has shit taste... It will not end well.

When you say 'shit taste' do you mean 'chose to be your telly'?

It’s annoying me that it’s taken a TV drama to get people interested in the PO scandal, which has been going on for years and years. The faux outrage from folk who either ignored it previously or just didn’t read any of the media coverage is really pissing me off.

    Totally agree.

Needs a drama making about the cladding scandal after this.
