It's a relatively new phenomenon for me, but after I cut pretty much all alcohol, dairy and meat out of my diet about 8 months ago, sugar is one of the few vices I have left. I don't eat a lot of it, a bag of gummy bears probably lasts a month but it's good to have on hand when I have a sweet craving. And my late night snack is a bowl of mixed nuts followed by a couple of squares of dark chocolate.

I would starve and die of dehydration. I don't know how you/people do this. Especially dairy.

Being told that your cholesterol levels are high enough that combined with your history of smoking, even though you quit over a decade ago, your chances of a major cardiac event in the next ten years are greater than 1 in 5, and that you probably need to spend the rest of your life taking statins to avoid it, is a heck of a motivator.

Also, I did say "pretty much all". The meat thing is easy as my wife hasn't eaten meat in 6 or 7 years at least, but I do eat a lot of fish. I do still drink, but probably only once a week on average and only one or two beers when I do. And dairy was surprisingly easy, I have a splash of cream in my coffee every morning and every 3-4 weeks I'll have a pizza as a cheat meal but I actually don't miss it much at all - soy milk is an excellent substitute in smoothies and protein shakes.

You wouldn't. The drive to survive is particularly strong in most people. You'd eat and drink other things.

I eat meat probably every couple of weeks. Only have dairy in the form of eggs and yogurt. Beer is my vice of choice, but it's in moderation these days.

If you keep doing the things that you did in youth, into middle age, it's not going to go well. Is my experience.

Eggs are not a dairy product.

Where do baby cows come from?

They are when they have yoghurt mixed in, but I take your point.

    Massive storks.

Dairy is not specifically bovine products, dairy means milk-based products.

It wouldn't be the most surprising thing to learn Tricky was mixing cow's eggs with yogurt.

I know people who consider chicken to be a vegetarian meat. Categorisation for convenience and self delusion is a thing. In much the same way that the modern trend is to redefine linguistic meaning to conform to personal sensibility.

Ultimately we will end up in a situation where one persons framework of definitions in regard to communication means a completely different thing to other people. As is the plan, to stop us collaborating on actually improving the world.

Anyway. Eggs are not dairy, even if they feel like it. Chicken is not vegetarian, even if it's not proper meat. Shady is still going to have to learn to do without meat when the uk doesn't have any anymore, and it costs too much to import.

Talking of costing too much, have you seen how expensive Olive Oil is now? Mental prices.

At least when it comes to protein, shades will be able to forage the hedgerows for crickets. But not for first cold pressing Tuscan virgin olive oil.

My wife commented the same the other day. A big jug that was $25 at Costco last year is now $40.

In addition, I'm a little surprised that our resident eco warrior doesn't recognise the massive environmental impact that cattle have on global warming.

Did you only truly recognise that when you stopped eating them? Maybe that gives you an insight into how hard, when, and why, other people look into things?

Is this me? I really do, don't worry about it. I could write a few paragraphs about it if you want, but got better things to do today. Suffice to say I barely eat red meat - almost entirely chicken and fish (and I try to minimise chicken). Can't do everything perfectly though. Wish I could, I just don't have quite the willpower.
