The displayed name (along with registered email address) will be able to be changed, with a suitable permission to access the ldap backend.

Only viewable by a user with the requisite permission. In this case currently a 'superuser' ie site owner (currently me and KarlMark - although he has not looked at this yet). I believe there will be fine grained permissions that will allow this, but I intend to keep the permissions framework very simple. There may be some value in exposing some aspects of the admin panel to some of a possible moderation team (specifically users), but this is not yet decided, and would be subject to community consent.
