If you find that you have run out of dishwasher tabs, in a pinch you can put a few drops of washing up liquid in the soap dispenser thing and then fill it up with baking soda for an approximation of the same result. It's not quite as good as a tab but it does work.

I am soon to be in this horrific situation so may try this

The moment of absolute terror that my wife and I shared at the thought that we may have to do the washing up by hand was not something I wish to repeat in a hurry.

Trying out some non-alcoholic beers for early-evening 'while cooking' options. I've learned that Days Pale Ale is not for me, but enjoying Athletic's Run Wild much more this evening.

I've just drunk a can of the run wild. Really good.

The Ford Escort RS Cosworth was not in fact an Escort at all, it was built on the Sierra 4x4 chassis and running gear and just had a Mk V Escort body.

There’s a classic white Escort Cosworth for sale in a garage in Southwell. About £75k. And, true fact, I had a couple of Sierra 4x4s back in the day.

Mark Hateley was on Forest's books as a youngster, until Clough told him to go find a job because he'd never make it as a footballer.

Good lamppost though. You could argue Clough was sort of right.

I wonder if there are many professional footballers who weren't told by someone in the game that they wouldn't make it? I imagine it's a pretty small list.

The old joke about not even being the best player in his family, probably applies here.

If you drive at 95-100mph down the hill on the A404 from J4 of the M40 towards the M4, your ears pop.

Not on that road, although a speed van sometimes parks towards the bottom of the hill, but not late at night. It can be a bit of a racetrack as it's dual carriageway and the hill starts almost as soon as you leave the lights.

I rarely speed these days. The M40 is about the only motorway where you can go over the speed limit and not be at risk of getting a ticket (barring the odd speed trap on bridges). Nearly every other motorway is covered by cameras now.
