Not on that road, although a speed van sometimes parks towards the bottom of the hill, but not late at night. It can be a bit of a racetrack as it's dual carriageway and the hill starts almost as soon as you leave the lights.

I rarely speed these days. The M40 is about the only motorway where you can go over the speed limit and not be at risk of getting a ticket (barring the odd speed trap on bridges). Nearly every other motorway is covered by cameras now.

I'm not as regular on it as I used to be but the M69 always used to be relatively quiet and I definitely don't think there are permanent cameras on it.

I drove all the way to the West coast of Scotland a few weeks ago, and back again, and got a speeding ticket about 500m from our house. I have no excuse - totally my fault - it was downhill and my speed had crept up to 34 in a 30 zone. It was one of those yellow box camera things.

    No speed awareness?

I don't know yet. The hire car company have told me the basic details but I've not received the actual ticket. Waiting for it to be forwarded to me.

Yes. One of the few that hasn't been "upgraded" to a smart motorway. The M1 has cameras almost the entire length now, apart from the section between the M6 and Nottingham. The M4, M25 and M3 have all succumbed as has the M6. Some people don't seem to realise the cameras are always active. I was on the M25 a few weeks ago in lane 4 behind some other cars, and an impatient bastard behind me decided to floor it and move to lane 1 and undertake everyone. He soon slowed when he saw the flash of the camera. A bit late by then.

Topically, I was at Nottingham Magistrates Court today to answer a speeing charge. No, reallly.

36 in a 30 on the A38 near Sutton in Ashfield last year.

However, due to a catalogue or numbnutted oversights on my part, culminating in missing deadlines and, ultimately, abject dipshittery when while entering my online guilty plea, meaning I had to go to court. Because I'd unwittingly checked the box that says 'I want to go to court'.

I was quietly worrying about it all for weeks until going today without telling anyone except Mrs. Seán.

Basically, I was fortunate in getting away with a reduced fine / costs on account of my obvious error during the plea process.

And possibly because of my writing a letter of explanation, dressing smartly, saying 'sir' and holding my hands up to my fuckwittedness and the magistrate taking pity on bungling oafism. Or not. I s'pose I'll never know.

At no point did my ears pop.

Really not. It was a day's annual leave used, a worry, and all round ballache as I live very much not in Nottingham anymore.

Bet the A38 camera was on the crossroads nr Kirkby. What used to be a red light camera is now a 30mph speed camera just for the crossroads. Roads both sides are 50mph then 30 for a 100 metres or so and back to 50.

People don’t realise how important this is. Because magistrates spend most of their time dealing with petty thieves, they can be pretty easily impressed by someone dressed smartly and clearly educated.

I'm going down the M5 on Friday to the M4 (west), where does this stand in the KMTB TazzingIt Index?

Which, if you think about it, is a terrible indictment on the system.. and illustrative of why, all the way up, the system protects the people who look and act like the people controlling the system. There are good boys and bad boys, and the way someone dresses and talks is more important in the categorisation than what someone actually does.

Not to say that @Sean should be locked up or anything. But, y’know, he probably should.
