Well yes, but the point was I’d have thought after nearly 3 hours they may have worked out the need to hit it slightly harder

I switched off as soon as Neco's hit the net but it's also a talent issue. Premier league players are just better able to accurately place and cleanly strike a ball where they want when tired and under pressure. And we had a fully grown adult as goalkeeper, which helps. Doesn't guarantee victory but the chances once it went to penalties were massively in our favour.

Exeter’s best chance went when Miquel went off, he had another howler or two in him.

Yes and instructive that their manager after the game says "and then it went to the lottery of penalties" and our manager says "penalties are never a lottery."

Everything about our penalties felt proper.

Weirdly behind United (Fulham at home), Brighton (away at Newcastle) and Bournemouth (home to Wolves).

Wasn't really a guess - it seemed a solid assumption that the odds on Bournemouth with a home tie against Wolves would be pretty similar to us with a home tie against Ipswich.

I tested the theory with a couple of Shadys and your belief they'd screw me on the cash out was proved correct (the cash out is lower than the original stake). So now I'm all in on Forest to win the Cup!

I wouldn't necessarily read too much into that. Their manager probably doesn't think penalties are a lottery at all, but more likely wants to draw focus to how close the outcome was to all their staff and stakeholders.

If football was totally predictable we would all be bored. Last night was gruesome to watch but an experience for the players.

The fact that you lot have moved to betting rather than the outcome of a performance really is quite something. Have at it but I still think Nuno will play the same team against Ipswich and expect a better display,

So bet away you dopamine chasing fools but I am here to enjoy watching (or not enjoy based on last night) because football means more to me than money.

He looks like the type of manager that thinks penalties are a lottery.

Because he missed one in a shoot-out once. So “he would say that wouldn’t he.”
As someone mentioned, the quality of our penalties, especially against a Russ-sized keeper, were very good. And much better than the ones we took vs Toon.

Wood’s excellence from the spot in recent months makes me wonder why on Earth he wasn’t our designated penalty taker for at least some of last season.

Yeah, I know; when he misses his next one it’ll be my fault.

Transfermarkt has his career record as 3 missed from 35; never missed one in the premier league, last miss was 2016 and he's scored 15 in a row since then (shootouts don't count).

We only had one penalty last season (Brighton home) and Wood had already been subbed off...
