Aside from anything else, there's an argument (that I don't really buy) that going out of the EL ASAP would be in the long term interest of the club, as it increases our chances of staying up.

I'd hope to see some fringe players but I think our usual approach to using them is fundamentally flawed - we just chuck on 11 players who've never played together and expect it to work and then slag them all off when it doesn't. I'm not sure what the team should look like but, for me, we'd be far better off keeping 4 or 5 of the regular team (Milenkovic/Sangare/Gibbs-White/Hutchinson?) and trying to build new relationships in that structure.
We aren't going to get away with using the same 10 outfield players in the remaining 11 league games, so let's use this chance to get some of the fringe players accustomed. And it reduces the chance of the collapse & penalty loss that we all think is possible.
Vitor showed in the first game he’s rather start with the strongest side and take them off once it was sorted. As opposed to Dyche having to throw them all on (but seemed surprised each time he had to).
Probably because Maranakis and Edu told him that they had bought some high quality back up players for the Europa who were itching to get on the pitch.

Tbf to Sean, it’s what most clubs in the top two tiers do now in cup competitions. You’d certainly expect the second string to be itching to show they deserve to start every week…
And I imagine Glasner was pretty surprised by Palaces performance at Macclesfield.
