True. Geezer who drinks down my local pub says he’s the top man for biblical infectious diseases. He says Danilo’s change in hair colour is definitely a sign of advanced leprosy.
Well there we go. Despite my Leeds-loan reservations, this feels like a Morgan Gibbs-White level signing (I had reservations about him too; I was wrong about that). And I'm comforted by the fact that Dougie has wanted him at Palace for a long time because he can pick a player. Marseilles also know their onions. I think on balance he comes with less risk than Gimenez who really is an unknown quantity. And as has been pointed out by people more with a better eye for the game than me, he will give us totally different centre forward options to what we have and maybe another wide option too. And when's the last time we had an England international striker in our squad? Genuinely cannot remember - was Collymore was capped before he left us.
Anyway, big signing. With Moreno too it's a really positive week and I suspect we may not be done yet. If we don't lose any key players before the deadline we will be looking good.
As you're talking about a former, rather than current, England international, probably Andy "Andrew" Cole? Lingard or Hudson-Odoi if you are bit more wide-ranging in what you call a striker.
We haven't had a current England international since Pearce.
Fair point but an England international one the way up rather than the way down. Hopefully. If he hits form and gets games he could be our next current England international.
I presume he also already knows CHO and maybe MGW from Chelsea and England youth teams, although he's a couple of years their senior.
Arsenal fans seem to think they're robbing us even harder than they robbed us when they sold us Turner though worryingly.
People are allowed to have opinions on things that they are hardly experts about, and discuss them on discussion forum. Otherwise you would probably spare us the amateur psychology, and crap hypotheses in formula form.
Paramedic.
Not that has any bearing at all.
I merely observed that in my opinion a lower leg break may be less serious than a dislocated fracture. With your expensive medical training are you able to offer an opinion on that, or are you too busy going in studs up horizontal over the top, to bother playing the ball?
Terrible analogy. The formula thing is expressly used to try and quantify issues that are nebulous and for which no expertise or answer exists and therefore to bring a framework to the discussion.
In the case of Danilo’s Ankle, there are now FACTS. However, prior to having any facts, several people on here were avidly postulating that it was season ending injury (or would take several months) and then did so again in response to someone who said they had seen a report suggesting it wasn’t that bad.
Given no one on here had
(A) examined the ankle
(B) seen an XRay or MRI
(C) spoken to his surgeon/seen the surgical note
I would suggest those opinions were based on very little data indeed other than a slo-mo of the incident from which one could tell nothing about the extent of the injury.
I’d point out that you are not usually an advocate of a data-free approach to forming an opinion…
I assume your paramedic mate has access to one or all of the above as he has “seen it”? In which case, that’s terrific.
Medically, yes a simple fracture has less recovery time than a fracture dislocation with significant ligament and soft tissue damage. I was happy to wait until relevant facts emerged…that is the scientific way.
Indeed. Quite shit for discussion around a subject for which the actual objective facts may never emerge though.
If you think that the things we talk about here are in any way based on facts, or even things that a wide consensus exists for are an objective reality, then you are a massive bellend.
Sometimes you just have to crack on with stuff, without access to the full facts.
Talking of scraps... Guru I will eat my hat if Barry is back playing in two months. Work load and muscle atrophy should be taken into account too. I will see Danilo in Jan. Hopefully.
Chicago: Medical Licence holder.
Edit: Would be delighted with Nketiah as I think he is a talented lad. I was also worried about Taiwo leaving but Eddie is a different kind of player so they could actually compliment each other well. Moreno when healthy is very good. The question is has he recovered fully from his long term injury?
Nketiah would reasonably expect to be immediate first choice, so we are (imho) pissing off our two proven (with caveats) strikers for a guy who is only a little better than either at best.
Especially with less aerial presence and 100K a week.
Cautious optimism.
I think it remains to be seen whether he’s “only a little better than either at best”. We don’t know how this (or any transfer) will work out at Forest… but…
Woody’s contract expires at the end of this season, & in any case he is a totally different kind of player to EN. Taiwo has more of Nketiah’s mobility, and we all know that a properly fit Taiwo is a real handful for even top class defenders… but we also know he hasn’t really been properly fit for months.
There’s a premium for home-grown, in addition to the premium for strikers in general, but Nketiah works his arse off, will make runs that neither of the others will (and vice versa, especially in Taiwo’s case). In short, he gives us something completely different. I’m failing to see how that’s a bad thing, & it’s somehow typical that our webmong fans have been yelling at the moon for weeks that we want a striker… and now it looks as though we’re signing one, a high proportion of them are turning their nose at him. Bonkers.
