If we’re playing that game then my pick would be Mats Hummels - quality CB who’s just left dortmund and maybe could be tempted with some dollar on a one or two year deal. Would allow us to either sell Murillo and replace with better, or play him alongside Murillo so he can learn the art of decision making.

Quite a few clickbait rumours about Liverpool going for Murillo as they can get him cheap

  • 26 Jun 2024, 12:33 p.m.

Well that’s pretty much what the bonkers rules are designed to deliver, so we shouldn’t be surprised. The only profit & sustainability being enhanced by the current set-up is that of the rich boys. Clubs like Forest exist to road test young talent from abroad; if they’re any good, a “big 6” club will take them off our hands soon enough. If they’re not quite so good, we get stuck with them.

We could easily be forced to take a hit in the order of £30m on Murillo, while other clubs sell hotels to themselves. But that’s OK as far as the Premier League is concerned.

Get used to it; not changing any time soon - and in particular, put any romantic old school notions of “building a team around” <player x> out of your head.

  • 26 Jun 2024, 1:15 p.m.

I don't think that's true. We wouldn't have any problem building a team around Ryan Yates and it's exactly what half the fanbase seems to want.

  • 26 Jun 2024, 2:23 p.m.

And we sign 15 players every window anyway so building a team isn't really our thing.

  • 26 Jun 2024, 2:27 p.m.

Fair point. But you know what I meant; finding a prodigious young talent, securing them on a long contract & trying to build up the team around them. No chance.

Ryan Yates deserves massive kudos for wringing every last ounce out of his talent by virtue of guts, an exemplary attitude and sheer bloody hard work. But he’s at his ceiling already, & it’s high Championship / Premier League strugglers; still better than 90% of pro footballers, lest we’re inclined to be too sniffy.

We have a number of players who are already better than that, and with development could become very significantly better than that - Murillo, Danilo, MGW & CHO definitely (given continued fitness, obvs), Taiwo, Elanga, Domínguez, Neco, Andy O, even Aguilera maybe. This new German kid with the very un-Germanic name, in theory; the new Brazilian keeper.

Some of those will indeed train on (MGW & Danilo probably the most likely after Murillo - there must still be questions about CHO’s long-term fitness if you’re a club thinking of spending a fuck-ton of wonga on someone). Some won’t - and it will be the ones that don’t who stay at Forest.

I am liking this game. Hummels might not be fast be he sure can head a ball and seems able to pass. So Xavi Simons and Hummels. Not bad.

Let's hope we are not desperate for points and can crack on but I cannot for the life of me see how we can avoid breaching PSR without a naughty accounting trick. Got to be the training ground or a City Ground Sponsorship. Unless we are mental enough to believe the Manc Citeh lawsuit will work or they get relegated.

Ah Football. Mad as a hatstand.

Some dumb deal with Murillo and Kelleher going each way sounds possible. Personally I don't think we need Kelleher if we have Sels and I'm sceptical about reserve goalkeepers from other teams after last year. But if it's a case of you can fix FFP and have Kelleher but you lose Murillo by the end of the week then I guess that's a deal worth doing.

  • 26 Jun 2024, 5:03 p.m.

Sounds horrible. Scousers can throw in Kelleher plus Curtis Jones and that defender with the very weird name plus 30 million and I might be inclined to listen but other than that fcuk that!

    Chicago: Not liking this talk.

Kelleher looks like the real deal to me. Massive step up from Sels.

  • 26 Jun 2024, 5:15 p.m.

Kelleher has at least played 10 premier league games, which puts him way ahead of Turner.

As long as he can kick and he doesn't have a first class degree from a Parisian clown academy.

Suggestion this morning that we're going to sell Niakhate in the next few days, which should make us PSR compliant.

  • 27 Jun 2024, 9:50 a.m.

Suggestion from Percy, which gives some credence.

EUR10m, two years ago and, apparently out of contract in a year, which means only about £2.5m left to amortise, so sounds possible. If Murillo leaves, losing our other left footed centre half is a shame but I can see why they’d want to improve.

  • 27 Jun 2024, 10:08 a.m.

Niakate has always been fairly underwhelming. If that sale allows us to meet the PSR then it’s a no brainer. Get it done.
