Club's unofficial spokesman says we need to raise about £20m and can do it through fringe players

I wonder if this is more a tactic to stop clubs trying to get Murillo and/or MGW on the cheap before 1 July.

Everything from the Taylors and Percy seems to suggest the club want to keep MGW, which clearly makes sense. Still think there's a fair chance we sell Murillo to get us some proper spending money but removing the pressure of 30th June, can only help. I don't think it's going to fool any prospective buyer if we are still trying to sell him this month but making out there's no pressure to do so.

I guess if we do believe we only have to make up £20m, the question may be whether the league agrees with our assessment of allowed losses. It was around this time last year they were told that their actual losses were £30m higher than they had reported (the covid and promotion bonus add-backs).

Theoretically .... would you take a 4 point deduction but we keep everyone we want to? It's a gamble I'm sure is being discussed by many clubs.

I think it would be a foolish risk for us to take. If we breach for a second time and it looks deliberate, the chances are we'd get the "maximum" penalty of 8. And maybe some more chucked in.

I thought that the received wisdom was we should have a bit more headroom next year as one of the big loss breaches will have gone and we will have the full loss allowance (and this year we will probably have broken even/made a small profit.)

I'm not convinced at this stage that we are definitely good enough to weather a significant points deduction again, unless a few teams no better than us get the same.

I think we could raise £20m from fringe players like the two keepers, Worrall, O’Brien, etc. but not sure this could be done by end of June.

You haven’t factored in the £25m Olympiakos are going to pay us for Omar…

Has to be £20m of profit too..

£20m doesn't seem like an insurmountable amount to top up with sales to Olympiakos

Losses for the three years we were punished for were:
    20/21 - £3m (allowance £13m)
    21/22 - £40m (allowance £13m)
    22/23 - £52m (allowance £35m)

The first year drops off this year, to avoid punishment our three year losses need to be £83m (£13m+£35m+£35m), so this year we need to show a "profit" of £9m.

That means that when the £40m drops off next season, we'll be able to show a three year loss of £105m, of which we'll only have eaten up £43m (£52m-9m), giving us £62M headroom. But that doesn't seem like a very sustainable way to run a football club.

No but hopefully it means we can relieve the pressure of having to make pre 30 June sales each year

I don't think it's mandatory for us to swing wildly from small loss/profit to massive loss. There are 14 clubs who apparently don't have to conduct a fire sale by the end of June to stay within the allowable losses.

I say sell Murillo to Olympiakos for £60million with a three year loan back.

Think you've just got Olympiakos banned from European competition.
