My dad thought that things should only be in the Olympics if they related to hunting, fighting, or message carrying. I never much gave a fuck. He’s dead now, and I’m not… coincidence?

I don't know - did you kill him in an argument over it?

Equipment is a very broad term. Running spikes are equipment. The pole in pole vault, the bike in cycling etc. Might need to narrow the definition, or are you actually advocating culling the Olympics to just running (bare foot), jumping and swimming?

So sailing, skateboarding, rowing. Out. Cycling, a sitting down sport, with high component of equipment, is definitely out. Lots of cycle racing to be had year round. No need for it at the Olympics.

Pole vault is, I concede, largely contingent on the stick. I like it, it would sway my view. I think there is an argument for 'higher' and vaulting with poles is a relatively long established and pure athletics event.

But logically I don't have a leg to stand on.

Also, anything in which an Olympic gold isn't the pinnacle of the sport, out.

    That's the Paralympics.

    Also the pole vault. Partially.

"Great Britain's Amber Rutter says "some accountability needs to be taken" and "an apology" given following the controversial end to the women's skeet final at the Paris Games."

Don't imagine she was thinking of an apology for dragging her inappropriate sport into the Olympics. But, you know.

I prefer the winter games anyway with tea tray racing down vertical ice tracks and stuff.

And biathlon action because cross country skiing and rifle shooting.

Earlier this evening I replied to a post on X saying that the Italian man Petrillo running in the womens Paralympics 200m had failed to qualify for the final with 'Good. Has he been invited on The Last Leg' yet?'
This was in part because men - however they identify - have no place in womens sport and a sarcastic reference to Adam Hills congratulating Petrillo on Monday's show, citing 'inclusion'. No mention of the woman excluded by his intrusion. The Last Leg has attracted a lot of opprobrium since for their stance.
I'm still watching the show and during an ad break during this evening's show I saw my tweet had received a like. From the official Archie Atkinson account. The Paralympian. Who was appearing on The Last Leg at the time.
I'm now wondering if it was actually him or an agent / proxy and whether they are also anti men in womens sport or whether they just picked up on The Last Leg reference.
