Heard that Daley had announced his retirement. Thought "blimey, he doesn't think he's the best athlete in the world any more, and has finally ruled out a comeback after '88."
Then found out that it was just one of those jump in the water fella's sick of getting wet.
Last time I saw Daley T was with a Womble at my previous visit to the Dons.
Genuinely a massive hero of mine. Possibly just below McEnroe. I've never knowingly been in the same postcode as him.
He had a gym up the road near Putney station (closed last year).
I over took him once walking down the Upper Richmond Road, not as fast as he used to be,
In his documentary he said something like "I wish I had a pound for everyone who has said they played Daley Thompson's decathlon". I did think that I should write to Princess Anne and get her to put together a 'quid to Daley' fund, just to say thanks to him.
Then I thought about how well that would go, and how sad I'd be to never be heard of again, and have to see out my days in an orange jumpsuit in Guantanamo bay. So I didn't.
The Joy of the Olympics is seeing the massively fit birds running, sprinting, jumping.
They are just gorgeous to watch and fucking great athletes as well. Some of them say they are skint. I would happily take a few of them in. Not sure how our monetary predicament will be impacted but am willing to take the chance. We do have five bedrooms at our house so maybe some sprint lessons...
IN other news, they really our the most beautiful creatures in the world.
Chicago: Running blind.
Some might say that you are an undeconstructed misogynistic neanderthal, chic. But I see you as one of my people. Carry on.
I disagree with a few of these and he's obviously being provocative but there's a lot of truth:

Clearly, 3x3 basketball, surfing (holding the event 10,000 miles away shows that), men's football and golf don't belong there. I think history means it's harder to chuck out rowing, sailing, archery and horses. I think velodrome cycling should have much the same objection as swimming - is there much difference in the skills required to win a sprint and a keirin? (2 men and 2 women got medals in both)
Agree with all of that apart from the cycling bit, purely because you can make the same argument for track events in the athletics (doubling up in the 100m/200m, 800m/1500m etc) so there’d be nothing left if you applied that across the board.
I’d also lose the horse dancing. In fact pretty much everything that requires some kind of arbitrary judgment (gymnastics etc) is on dodgy ground for me.
Where do we stand on T20 cricket in Olympics?
Football definitely out then.
100% against until/unless we get a medal.
Only two shared medals between 100m & 200m (1 man, 1 woman and different winners), none in the 800m and 1500m. I think they are different enough events and the massive spread of countries winning athletics medals makes a strong case for keeping all their events.
That's broadly my feeling on the distinction between sport and non-sport but I think it would diminish the olympics to lose the likes of diving, gymnastics and boxing.
Don't we do this every Olympics? Anything that requires judging, as opposed to refereeing, is out. Anything that requires enforcement of technique judgement to differentiate events , is out. Team games, out. Anything requiring third party things (equipment, other animals) as the significant component of the event, out. Anything that isn't about being higher, stronger, or faster, out.
My dad thought that things should only be in the Olympics if they related to hunting, fighting, or message carrying. I never much gave a fuck. He’s dead now, and I’m not… coincidence?
