Well. It wasn't fully tested was it, because it borked the world. Unless that was the plan.
It's a neat demonstration and reminder that if hackers wanted to achieve some nefarious goal, the security level of the victim is not necessarily as high as might be expected.
SolarWinds is another perfect example of that.
