Watching MOTD - the miracle save came from a corner that either was a foul on CHO or a goal kick. Under no circumstances was it a corner.

What a Fucking game!!! Penalty drama. (I actually think Rogers was pulling Anderson’s shirt off before he the returned the foul with an obvious pullback. VAR bullshit. (How could anyone tell that Elanga was offside!)

Milenkovic the God! And Anderson possibly fouling but good for him for putting it about. And Elanga having a major impact. Martinez being a jousy bastard (brilliant save mine you), and then falling on his arse when the Serbian Warlord headed through him. Also hilarious that Antony scored through his legs.

Villa were good. We were great last 10 minutes. Aina was amazing again (please please sign him up) but CHO was the star. Always attacking. Very active. Fast! Morata was really good when he came on.

Having said all that. Emery made a huge mistake by taking off the Excellent Kamara. Maybe he is our MOM. Although if that doesn’t count then Callum.

Tv made a point of saying they were checking two defenders, which was part of the reason it took so long. But also it'll depend so much on what part of Elanga's shoulder they put the line- should have admitted they couldn't tell and gone with the onfield.

I found myself arguing in the pub afterwards that the line they drew for the Villa player was through the middle of his arse rather than the edge.

As a general supporter of VAR it was at that point I began to reconsider my position.

Weren't we meant to be getting automated offside VAR? That should at least make it quicker and less subjective to the moment someone decides to stop the camera.

The semi-automated version isn’t, as I understand it, using the tv footage, its sensors in the ground. But, coming back to my point, I have no idea how it would tell which part of Elanga’s shoulder is allowable.

I keep coming back to the position that my understanding is VAR was designed to help correct a 'clear and obvious error'. The amount of time it took yesterday to arrive at the offside decision was ludicrous.

In that instance, when it's immediately clear how tight it is, they should abandon intervention and just go with the on-field decision. Get on with the fucking game and save VAR for when the officials have dropped an absolute clanger.

If Elanga was flagged off yesterday in real-time, we suck that up - even if it turns out after the game (and following five minutes of analysis in super slow-motion) that he might actually have been onside. The problem is when they start drawing lines, which seem to be completely arbitrary and vary from game to game according to which inept (or corrupt if you listen to Tricky) clown is sat in the booth.

In this instance, I suspect that if the goal had stood both teams would have been happy to play out a draw. The fury at the disallowed goal (a Milenkovic header so strong that not only did it go through Martinez, it somehow injured him in the process) got us that win.
