There was no covering defender, and he clearly believed that he was preventing a goalscoring opportunity - or why pull him back?

If you give the penalty for the shirt-pull, how is it not a red card?
Taiwo got away from his man and was effectively unmarked.

By the laws of the game (which I of course read daily) I agree. There's no attempt to get the ball.

Things to consider for denying a goal or clear goal-scoring opportunity are:

-Distance between the offence and the goal
    -General direction of the play
-Likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
    -Location and number of defenders

Would you say Taiwo had control of the ball or was likely to gain control of it?

That's not a fair question in any game.

-Distance between the offence and the goal

    Really short.

    -General direction of the play

    Directly towards him

-Likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball

Definite chance of getting something on the ball, and directing it towards goal - if not impeded.

    -Location and number of defenders

None able to impact the play.

By that measure, it should have been considered as a red. By what you quote.

'Control' of the ball is a funny phrase isn't it. I can think of plenty of red card penalty situations where the player doesn't have 'control'. Would he have got his head on it? I think probably not, but it's hard to say for sure. He would have had an extra yard if not for the shirt pull, then thrown himself at it. He might have.

I'd have to say no as I'm not sure T ever has control of the ball.

This is all moot as Taiwo can't control a ball.

Maybe Gusto was kindly saving Taiwo from hurling himself against the post again.

Malo is a Saint, after all.

Do folks read all the way to the last post in a thread before going back to reply to any that caught their fancy. Sadly I reply as I go.

There's an amazing photo on /r/nffc of the clash between Morgan and Sanchez where you can literally see Morgan's skull. It's not nice.

The picture of him with his stiches are very ouchy.

He looks a bit like a Klingon, but in a cool and hard AF way, not in a comedy shit cosply way like Jolean Lescott did.

Watching the highlights on the BBC earlier I could distinctly hear us chanting "Is there a fire drill" as the Chelsea goal was ruled out for offside. Made me chuckle.

Also some nice shots of Fella waving goodbye to the Chelski fans after the third went in
