I hate it when players stand on or near the ball to prevent a quick free kick. In rugby, players run away from the ball because they know they will get bollocked if they don't. Happy to see the same in football.

I'm the same with the habitual kicking or walking away with the ball after a free kick awarded against. Anyone touching the ball after the whistle is blown should be booked.

I think it’s getting worse and is clearly something that players are being coached to do. It’s ludicrous that nothing has (so far) been done to stamp it out. I thought The Powers That Be wanted to support attacking and flowing football?

A world without comedy shithousery is no world at all.

Maybe every team can nominate one player who’s allowed to do it. But, fair warning, for every Brice Samba, there will be a Robbie Savage.

Someone explain that VAR penalty overturn to me please?

Can't help you....nigeria have been excellent, but that's a penalty. Clearly playing the man, not the ball. As it were.

Agreed. And it's normally an umpires call situation (in the Prem at least), if ref gives it there's not enough wrong there to overturn.

At least it's consistently shit everywhere.

And if they are claiming it was a dive then should be yellow card?

You can have a physical coming together without it being either a foul or a dive. As a defender, I'd be pretty happy if you could get away with that sort of stuff...but the reality is if you push an opponent chances are it's going to be a penalty. I can't really tell you what the busy bunch of officials are thinking of to reach that decision. It's a nonsense.

....and I'm pretty sure that if the ref waves that away, VAR calls them to have a look at it, and it's then given.

Not enough for a penalty for me, any presumption in favour of the on-field decision more than wiped out by the wildly over-exaggerated tumble.

Her weight is all forward of her planted feet when the shove puts her upper body forward...so she will fall forward and face plant...or you try to strengthen your legs to ride the contact....which ends up as a pop tumble when your weight is so much forward. I do not believe there is any dive intent there.

You may observe that out of the penalty boxes free kicks are being given for less defined 'leveraging off the ball'.

....and that's a red...compare with, for example Beckham's flick out against Argentina....way worse. Intentional stamping.

    Well that's dumb.
