I would definitely advocate not going cold-turkey on caffeine, especially if you currently consume a fair bit. Got to bring that down gradually or you get some pretty unpleasant side effects - the headaches in particular can be awful.

I'd be an advocate of cutting out, or at least cutting back, on the booze. If nothing else, you're likely to get some much better-quality sleep which gives you a fighting chance the next day. Exercise helps in that regard too, even a walk at some point of the day is beneficial for more reasons than just the moving around.

But then, as others have said, taking advice from a bunch of internet twats is never preferable to discussing with people who actually know what they're talking about. Hope you're soon feeling better, Ingo.

I found myself thinking earlier that Ingo has quite an addictive personality. So yeah. I think I would work on cutting out booze - but on the exercise front - don't go too heavy. I can imagine you suddenly starting to try and run 10K a day. Just get some decent walks into your days. The odd run. I know that when I do Parkrun I find I'm in a good mood for about half the day ... then I get tired in the afternoon and can get really grumpy. Don't be me.

I definitely have to treat alcohol with more respect as a middle-aged man than I did when younger. Guess my liver isn't as efficient as it used to be or something, but I can't tolerate booze anywhere near as much.

It's not that I get pissed any quicker, but the after-effects can be annoying enough to make me not bother drinking in the first place. The enjoyment of even a single glass of wine or beer in the evening is quickly overtaken by a night of really poor sleep, and inevitably feeling tired and grumpy the next day.

I'm not ready to close the door on it yet, but I could easily see that being the case before I'm 50 - and if you'd said that me in my 20s or 30s, I'd have thought you crazy.

Don't give up grasshopper. It's still perfectly possible to get shitfaced and enjoy it, well into your late fifties.

I'll keep you informed about how it goes from here.

OK into your late 60s too, although the hangovers do get worse.

You are an inspiration to all of us....apart from the terminating of every mortal soul thing. Although actually, on reflection, that's probably better than the alternative.

Had a Covid booster and flu jab about 6 hours ago.

I'm feeling rough as now. Attempts to TUP are failing.

Have two toes curling under the adjacent toe, and causing pain while I play. I think as a result of an old ligament injury. Have taped them up. They feel okay now.
