Is it that only one major tournament contested by Europeans (euro or world cup) has been won by an international team without a manager who is a citizen of that country? (Greece, euros)

How would you feel if the 1966 would cup had been won being led by, let's say, a Scot. Think you'd ever have heard the last of it?

International football is entirely predicated on the criteria of national availability. I personally would extend that to staff. If the argument is that nationality has no place in the competition, then the whole thing is in a mess.

I don't think that is hat stand, and it has nothing to do with paranoia. Particularly when we are living in the very age when our local football clubs are being wrestled from the communities that built them.

...i don't think international football support, and the pride derived from that, is well served by meekly supporting the bunch of foreigners foisted upon you.

    YMMV.

Lee Carsley seems to be the expectation as the new man in charge at the Sheep Dip. I know he's an ex shagger but he's never managed in club football AFAIK, seems like a risky shot to take when you're desperately trying to climb out of the relegation hole. His primary experience seems to be in developing young players, and they don't seem to have any - their Academy is shit, and Warne stuffed the squad with League One knackers.

Looks like Derby will appoint Eustace. Shame as he seems to be ideal/terrible for them. Ex-player but without too much baggage, already turned round two basket case clubs in the championship.

Eustace will have his work cut out - they're the weakest squad of players that Derby have had for a very long time.

There are some amusing clips on the socials of their fans and players at Carrow Road on Saturday. Derby scored a last-minute penalty to salvage a point and prevent what would have been, I think, an eighth straight loss.

Fans stayed behind after the final whistle to do that weird bounce thing they do, while the goalkeeper was doing forward rolls across the grass in front of the away section - a teammate lobbing his shirt triumphantly into the crowd. You'd be forgiven for thinking they'd won the league or something - started the day in 22nd and ended in 22nd. They are a laughing stock at present.

No, they are the laughing stock, they can't be both. Please do make some effort to try and keep up. And don't call me Shirley, etc.

He’s a mediocre manager at a mediocre club. Nice pairing really.

Seems like he only arrived a short while ago, but it was March, apparently. And Cambridge have not improved in that time. Probably a division higher than they deserve but it's nice to be back in the league at all.

I was out on Saturday and referred to Notts as us. I'm unlikely to live this down, possibly ever.
