I agree, let’s get back to basics.
Can somebody (tricky) start a pointless argument with somebody and patronise the fuck out of them please.

It would appear that there are no technical subjects that are too dry for talkback. Strange as everyone seems quite normal when you meet them in real life….

No one has ever met me in real life - apart from Chicago - but that was MANY years ago

Excellent, I look forward to the discussion of the vagaries of coast to coast SIP backhaul networks.

    You rang, m'lud?

I'm currently mucking about with ejabberd, and that has a sip server...but is not compliant with any pstn gateways. I've also had a bit of a play with freeswitch. I'd like to containerise a multi-tenant pbx....but the grief outweighs the benefits with current open source tech.

I don't really do PBX any more, but why don't you just go back to source and build an instance of Asterisk? It's the definitive open source PBX that already has a well established and tested containerisation model and is ready to connect out of the box to pretty much any open standards-based PSTN gateway you can think of.

Or is the Captain Kirk approach the point?

    Beam me up Scotty!

Asterisk is a bit bag of spanners. The throughput/resource ratio is not good, and generally I'm trying to move away from php based stacks these days (this here site is django based for that exact reason). Freeswitch is much cleaner and more resource efficient, and arcane, and hardly documented, and not supported on containers.

I might shit the bed and throw up a freepbx based container if I ever really need one. .. but in the meantime I'm having the occasional play to see when freeswitch becomes doable for my needs.

FreePBX is Asterisk core, is it not?

Not necessarily. After all these years and still you don't know the rules.

    Ooh. Rules.

That's another hot topic to add to the list.
