We seem quite good at making initial bids, getting them rejected and then moving on this transfer window. But it’s not really helping us improve the squad.

Just because we need more doesn't detract from (my opinion) that we've signed two upgrade players in positions we were weak, and one more in a position where strength in depth is important and looks like excellent value. Not held to ransom and moving efficiently. Could be a lot worse.
Is it too optimistic to hope that we’ve done a bunch of sounding out and will complete some swoopage once our European fate is known tomorrow?
Dream semi-realistic signing before the end of the window? Think it would be Harvey Elliott for me.
Not sure how firm your semi is. You might have to end up thumbing that one in.
Times again: we're in talks with Milan for Musah. Napoli also want him.
It occurs to me that we're going to lose Sangare, Aina, probably Taiwo and Boly, and maybe Dennis (LOL) to the ACN this winter when we're hopefully in the heart of 4 different competitions.

Luiz and/or Fernandes. Don't see where Elliott fits in our strongest team (but I thought that about Anderson this time last year).
McAtee apparently close now. Hopefully that stops us having to rely on Jesus as a no 10.

Yep, was just going to post that Romano has given it the provisional HWG.
Not sure he gets in our strongest team, either. But presumably cheaper than Elliot and next in line for all three attacking midfield roles.
My thought was that he was a seriously talented footballer, but the general consensus on here and other places over the summer is maybe not quite as good.
In terms of expectation (should he sign, of course) are we not necessarily thinking Morgan Gibbs-White levels of potential?
Lee Carsley can spot a player, so if he thinks this lad is good enough to captain the U21s and they then go on to win the Euros, that’s good enough for me.
Reports of interest in Tsimikas from the Scouse.
West Ham in for Fernandes (Southampton).
We have the second lowest net spend in the Premier League this summer, we're one of 5 clubs to have made a profit on transfers.
We are clearly seeing signs that last season's great unbuilding is over, and as a result of the pre-doped financial elite clubs broad under-performance last time out, they are now putting their shoulders to the wheel.
There's a clear stepping on the head of the well run clubs (look at the plundering of the likes of brentford, palace - the attempts with us and E&MGW), and an assertion of the established order to keep the cannon fodder in their place (Newcastle wont be able to sign anyone unchallenged, and only if they cough up their crown jewels).
