Can't set the team up like last season, other teams were figuring out how to play it.

Not sure about that. People played 4-4-2 for fifty years. It had been figured out long before that. There's no secret about defending with men behind the ball, and hitting teams on the break. It's hardly a new thing. More problematic is teams knowing that we don't necessarily conform to the modern convention of not putting the ball at risk. What's your thinking, try not to defend as well, try not to attack quickly?

Loss of Elanga's pace and strength will be more problematic than 'being found out'. We need to be better on the ball, so we aren't defending it so much. Ultimately we had a season where things went as well they could defensively, and also attacking. We are unlikely to get the same conversion rates and keep the same lid on goals conceded. Not because we've been found out particularly, but because of a reversion to the mean.

Finish tenth and win a trophy? Even the finish tenth bit alone seems quite demanding.

I meant more their normal finish of 12th.

set a standard for ourselves that will expect a top half finish at minimum

I get this will be the general consensus, is this the TalkBack view?

For me I still see last year as an outperforming oddity and am reverting back to expectations from start of last year, being comfortably away from relegation.

Your expectations are in line with mine. I’d take a season in the Palace zone.

Me too. Marinakis? Less so, I imagine

Which is why I don't think Nuno will start next season as manager unless we win a trophy.

You can't teach experience! Or something.

There was some talk about the impact Lingard had in the Forest dressing room, because it gave some of the players who were new to the Premier League a sense that the club was right to be there by having players who had done it all before. Having that experienced presence gave the group a belief that they could stay up. Maybe Walker can have a similar impact at Burnley, maybe not.

I do think this is under appreciated by fans....as is those players training with the first team, or pushing to get into the first team, learning from those around you, changing perception, understanding levels, being lifted by those who have experience. The levels of work, physical, tactical, psychological. Sometimes I think that some fans really do think that they swan about all day, then just have a kick about a couple of times a week.

Agreed. Yates & others have commented more than once on Milenković being a total beast in training; completely focused, sets high standards, not afraid to hold people to account if they stuff up. We saw evidence of that on the pitch, too. Every successful team needs those sorts of leader - I suspect Wood is one, too, & probably others. To be fair, Yates himself is a walking example of straining every muscle to make maximum use of whatever talent you have; Zach Abbott & other young players are clearly noticing & reference it.

I suspect the level of dedication, discipline & self-sacrifice required to be an elite level athlete in any sport would astonish & daunt yer average Webmong

Bindon gone on loan to Sheff Utd for the season.

Hadn't twigged that Selles managed him for a season and a half at Reading. Makes all kinds of sense with that in mind.
