    Arvin Appiah.

2 goals in 54 games for Almería (in 2019). Then a string of loans (6 in total), mostly Spanish or French second division. And Rotherham.

I think it’s fair to say we got the better of that particular deal.

I am not Brett Williams, nor is he me, but it seems we were typing pretty much the same thing simultaneously

I am getting increasingly cross that people take things that other people say like it's some sort of immaculate truth, while at the same time incorrectly interpreting the actual words.

Nothing is being aired here. A specific message, almost certainly a largely misleading one, is being intentionally placed for a reason.

At this point we can only speculate what that reason might be....and we will probably be wrong.

I'm absolutely sure that the spirit and bonding is better than, say, the point at which we were promoted, sent all the loans back, and threw a blanked over a bunch of randoms, some of them pre-broken, in the hope that they would find a way to wrestle from under it, and emerge blinking into the shippy light.

I entirely agree, & thought that was pretty much what I said (albeit - unusually for me - rather shorter)

Some admittedly basic research leads me to believe that we had until noon today to register a player in time to feature on Sunday. I wonder if any deals were actually completed by then.

  • 15 Aug 2025, 1:11 p.m.

Highly unlikely a player signed this late would be in Sunday’s squad anyway, so no biggie. The most we’re likely to get is some pre-match wandering onto the pitch & waving action from the likes of McAtee etc

Personal terms agreed with Douglas Luiz, says Romano.

I'm a little concerned as to how we are affording all this - hopefully this is a loan with an option.

Surely we still need at least one full back too

  • 15 Aug 2025, 4:29 p.m.

Sounds like they are loaning out Moreira and getting shot of Richards, one way or another, so I'd say two. Aina is probably going to AFCON, after all.

    This can’t be right.

Most on here have not been concerned in the slightest we’ve been very slow regarding incomings and that Nuno wanted a small squad.

  • 15 Aug 2025, 5:45 p.m.

Still think the hutchinson thing is weird. I doubt we paid 37 as we probably have a massive load of add ons but still seems like a Kia thing.

Anyway, Bakwa and full backs and that is probably it I would think. Then we send some of the others out and possibly Taiwo. (shame I would love to have seen a bounce back..) CHO signing the new contract is most important to me oddly enough after the mad French bloke. I just think he is going to be a hit.. (Obviously I will have to check his teeth).

    Rico lewis on loan? possibly.

Can't help think something utterly mental is going to happen on deadline day. Not sure if it will be an incoming or outgoing.

    Chicago: Dizzy.

How are we affording all this?

    Elanga £55m
    Danilo £20m
    Sosa £10m
    Turner £8m
    O’Brien £5m
    Omobamidele c.£10m

    Likely Jota Silva c.£10m+
    Carlos Miguel ?£5m
Wouldn’t be astonishing to see Taiwo go back to Germany - ?£5m

Europa League said to be worth c.£20m more than Conference. That lots adds up to c.£150m, before you take into account how much we got for finishing 7th.

And the way transfers work, with most of the incomers on 4 or 5 year deals, the cost is spread to an extent (especially for PSR).

To date we have spent ?£20m on the 2 Brazilians combined, McAtee £30m (though not all up front), Hutchinson £35m, Kalimuendo ?c.£20-£25. Gunn free.

Of course, like all football clubs, it’s a bit of a Ponzi scheme in that we’d be in big trouble if we went down - but a) we’re not going down & b) even if we did, selling Murillo & MGW alone would bring in a lot (& you can be sure that they wouldn’t be the only 2 players looking to get out!). We’re highly likely to be making another Elanga-stylee big sale in a year from now… but we know that; that’s the “model” for clubs like us.

On the face of it (cos in real life it’s WAY more complicated than this, obvs - and I haven’t mentioned wages because that would be a total guess on my part), I’d say we have enough headroom to do this.

I meant more long term, as you say eventually the amortisation can bite you. You have to keep finishing high to keep the income home. It must be nerve wracking to be the FD.

We sold a £50m player this summer. I assume we'll do at least that next summer. Until you fuck up recruitment or get shitloads of injuries and get relegated, it'll be fine.
